Fitting stock heatshield over larger headers?

Hey all,

I'd like to see if I could in any way modify my stock heatshield to fit over my mugen headers. Has anyone done this? If there's a certain level of cutting, and a 'bit' of bending involved to gain the correct clearance can it be done?

No way...no how. My 5th gen Mugen header and heat shield are worlds apart from fitting together.

But I think its an excellent idea and would love to find factory heat shield from another car that doesn't slope down right away like ours. Then it would be possible to modify it to fit.

Ah I remember this lude... there was speculation that the headers weren't put in yet when the engine bay shot was taken though?

I might go custom, although I'd favor the standard item More updates later, if I can make it fit I'll let you guys know

I'm amazed no one has made some kind of billet metal piece that would cover it.

A good exhaust shop should be able to work something out with brackets.

Later on in that thread...or the link in that thread says that he put his stock heatshield over his mugen headers because San Diego cops are cracking down on modfiied cars.

do you want to do this to hide your header or for its practical use?

Both... Mainly for practical use since I noticed my an increase in engine bay temps, and since it's summer here, it's even worse!

Plus my headers aren't that blingy looking now with age now...

I've seen a custom billet cover on h22a headers, but it's simply a "V" shape that's been curved over. It looks great imo, but I feel it doesn't have that great amount of coverage a stock one does...

I saw this in a magazine and the guy added brackets to the stock heatshield and made it fit over greddy header.

Was in an import tuner .. search way back in one of my threads I nearly quoted the whole article .. =)

Oh sh!t, that thread above is the car ! sick sick sick, does wonders for the mugen parts .

The tailpipe actually I think was a Greddy SP with another dummy pipe put on to make it look stock and evade cops, also painted black w/ thermal paint .. made to be a sleeper.

That's an interesting thought...! It'd still have to fit flush with the block at the top though for that 'untouched' look...
