Congrats on the JRSC, I can't wait to get one myself. Keep us informed on how everything goes with it.

First impressions of JRSC

Well, guys, the day has come, and what a day it has been! The supercharger is installed and ready to go. I just receieved it this morning from LHT Performance in St. Petersburg, FL. FYI, I drive a '98 Base 5-speed with a removed resonator (stock air filter), and DC Sports CC Headers. The rest of the engine is stock.

What can i say? THe car is UNBELIEVABLE. Luded1 was correct when he stated that "5th gear pulls like 3rd." In fact, EVERy gear pulls, at the least, as much as the next lowest gear. On the highway, 3rd and 4th are unnecessary gears, as 5th essentially performs all the needed passing and cruising. In fact, its a little too much for me, as I am accustomed to cruising the highway at ~80-85mph (at little to partial throttle). The slightest application of throttle sends so much torque you reach for the shifter, as this amount of power normally comes at a lower gear. But alas, you're in fifth!
From a stop, redline comes almost instantaneously in first gear, so don't even think about WOT. Second and third gears bring so much torque steer, you might want to consider stiffening up the rear suspension to drive it safely. This makes downshifting and quick lane change manuevers a little more complicated.

Ahh..the sound of the supercharger: Personally, this is the first supercharged car I've been in, so I cannot comment on how it sounds compared to other blown vehicles. All i can say is that the "whine" of the blower is IMMENSELY pleasant sounding, while being aggressive as well. Under 5K, the blower is the only thing heard, past VTEC, the beautiful symphony of induction music makes its way back into the cabin.

I'm in the process of making a dyno appointment, as well as tuning, so we can all see exactly how much power this baby's putting to the ground. Though there is a lack of hesitation upon full throttle application, there is, however, one between 3-4K, almost analagous to an automatic transmission shift (a brief and occasional bog, so to speak). This, hopefully, will be resolved in the tuning session.

In addition, I will hopefully post pictures on my site soon, as soon as I get my hands on a high quality digicam tonight. (Hopefully, h-a.net will be up by then)

Other than that, the fit, finish, and installation are impeccable. I highly recommend LHT to anyone in the central florida region to consider these folks. But, if you people excuse me, I think I have a couple errands to run

about your hesitation. Do you get it when you are making boost at that speed?

a common experience w/ jsrc's is that as you spool up, your fuel pressure riser cannot react fast enough, so to speak.

imagine that you are going from 0-1psi. this happens very fast on a supercharger. very fast. you prolly know this but relate w/ me here. The fuel pressure riser doesn't really up the pressure @ 0psi --> .9999psi. The integra forum calls it the flat spot. So the hesitation you are seeing could be a lack of fuel from 0-.9999999psi. After 1psi, the fuel pressure riser notices it and ups the psi very fast after that.

there are fuel pressure risers out there that up the fuel pressure @ 0psi instead of 1psi (cartech 20005 and up).

I would really like to see what you and everyone else dyno at with the charger. Good luck and get your car to the track. It's weird about the hesitation you're getting between 3-4K. If it were your stock manifold I would suggest that you're just feeling your secondary runners openning, but that's obviously not it. Let us know what it is if you get it figured out.

Actually, with the JRSC in, the secondary runners are always open, as there is no need to help speed up low rpm air!

LUDED1, did you ever get anything like this? Its not serious or anything, just quirky, as in ONLY seems to happen somewhere between 3 and 4K.

damnit, i am jealous...

are you going to get an exhaust soon?
you should!!!

anyhow...
I KNOW THIS WILL BE HELLA HARD FOR YOU TO DO!!!!!...
but maybe on the next fillup, can you check if your
GAS MILEAGE DECREASED??? with the gas prices going up to $3
in CA this summer, this is VERY important for all of us in CA.

if our stock ~25 mpg goes down to 20 mpg, FORGET IT!

Well, one thing is for sure...this tank's consumption wont go above 18mpg!!!

But definitively, of course...I always check my consumption every time i fill up. But with my driving, it may go down, due to a decreased need for going WOT. But then again, the greater amount of fuel mixed in with a greater quantity of air might offset that. Sounds interesting...we'll see.

I'd like to make a little correction, i just came back and the slight hesitation i feel comes around 2700, or just close to 3K.

(Just goes to show you where in the powerband i spend most of my time!!)

Really though, I've only hit vtec around 5 times today...the other 50 or so shifts were done around 4500. Believe me, there's just so much power under there that you forget about the high-cam lobes. This car is so freakin traffic- and public-driving friendly its not even funny...i seriously believe preludes should come like this from the factory, but, then again, what else am i supposed to conclude after and hour and a half worth of driving?

why would he get an exhaust??? the SC is belt-driven...no need for one. I'd keep the stock exhaust and maintain a semi-sleeper look.

also, do you know anyone with a spoon front strut bar that would be willing to let you see if it would fit? It seems like the spoon bar would have the best chance of clearing the SC, not sure if it does though

You got it. Plus lets not forget the additional money involved (as you'd expect I'm kinda dry when it comes to car mods), plus the tin can look, in addition to the louder sound...IMO its not worth the trouble.

However, if luded1 ever gets a dyno and his is >15HP more than mine, i might consider one.
