Experienced engine builders help me out, h22a5 block

Hey

So just had my h22a2 engine rebuild with mahle 11.5:1 pro2 cams eagle rods, all good stuff. Unfortunately my block decided to crack it self right below my header in a coolant line.. So 500km of driving I can refill ~ 2liters... Not fun really..

Anyways I have decided to get a new block from the new prelude h22a4 / h22a5.
Reason for that is because my good friend swapped his h22a2 engine to a4 version because of a cracked block same spot -,- so this could be why they changed the design of the coolant line in the block on the newer versions..

Picture:

Its comming out of nowhere.. But from the block >,<

I had a really hard time finding a new block, since here in Denmark you see more Supras around really :s no preludes at all.. My friend had a extra block a5 version laying around.
Thing is, it has some scratches, heres a few pictures. I'd like you guys to comment em, if its safe to run with the mahle pistons.

This one you can slightly feel with your nail, about 1cm high

So heres the real problem about this block, but not sure I should be worried?

I think there has been some coolantwater laying there, was some white'ish dry stuff we wiped away, you can slightly feel it with your finger, measured it to 87.004mm and right beside it to 87.008 ~ 0.004mm dont know what that is in inch but you can barely feel it. Question is, can I take some really really fine sandpaper 1200 grit (if thats the word..?) with some oil and polish it away with out doing any harm on the FRM walls?

Heres lots more pictures :P

Its actually only cyllinder 4 (the one near camera) thats free of that coolant water stuff.

From the other side

This one in cyllinder 2, cant feel this one with a nail

Close up on the stuff I mentioned ^

Also not sure what this is ^

Another question this block is missing the bearing cap bridge, that holds down the crank. And oil screen thingie + baffle plate. Can I use the one from my h22a2 block, in the h22a5 block? ?

I think that was about it.. Sorry for this long post I hope someone can help me out here. I miss driving my lude :< and now its summer argh..

Thanks all,
Best regards Rasmus
Denmark

I would have just gotten the block tig welded...
I know im not much help, since i dont know anything about the a5.. but im pretty sure you can reuse everything from your old block...
just get itre honed, maybe bored out if the scratches are to deep

About the main caps, you may not be able to use them as they may have a different "round" to them, as inteh main caps on the other engine may have a differnet size bore to them and require a different color of bearing. I t is bad form to jsut take another main cap and tighten it on there as if it is out of spec at all it will cause the main bearing to spin it self and then you will have not oinly oil pressur loss but also possibly knock int he future from the crank wopbblign around in the main journal.

As for your block, the white material insdie the water jacket is scale buildup from not using pure demineralized water. This is something that you should clean out using scale remover(this is widely used in industrial kitchen to clean their dishwasher.). As for the sleeves, well i hate to say it but it appears there is a "lip" at the top of the cylinder, if this is the case then i think those sleeves are toast (well aside from the scoring on them, as that can render them useless as well). If you really need to find out if you can reuse the sleeves, then take a bore gauge and a micrometer(to read bore gauge, unless its dial boregauge, and if tahts the case im envious....lol) and measure the very top of the cylinders diameter(go both ways to form a + in the top of cylinder. Take these measuremtn on all cylinders. The do the bottom of the cylinder the same way. If these measure are out more than .020 the you have to replace the cylinders. Now, if they are within the spec, then take the same kind of measures all down the sleeve every centimeter or so and write them down to calculate the taper of the sleeve.

Now, if this were my block i would have the sleeves removed and resleeved however due to the missing main caps, i think you may be up shiit creak with out a paddle anyway.(although you may be able to get it all machined, i would confer with a machinist to be sure)

As for the crack int he block, i wouldnt try repair it, i mean im sure there are people out there who have done so with success but, once there is a crack, there integrity of the block is compromised and even though it could possibly be welded back, i personally wouldn't consider this to be an option. Since you live in europe, it may be harder to get a block, however if you buy a jdm block, you can convert it to obd2 and then remove the peripheral parts from your a5 and put them on the h22a. I think this may be your cheapest route as you can get a jdm long block for 700-900 if you try.

good luck man and sorry to hear about your luck, but you know what is said, " for not a masterpeice can be created without disaster beforehand..."
