****ed engine build?

ok i have another problem...and i think this might have ****ed up the engine if i installed it without looking..but i dont know..thats why im asking you guys...i just got this engine from a guy off ebay..who says the engine was port and polished by a local company in WA.

i opened up the new head just for the heck of it before i get my crower cams\retainers\springs and so i took off the JDM cam's...and i looked inside the holes (shown in EXAMPLE 1)...the green holes that are covered by the cams...and i found the flat washer in most of the holes (see example 2)....

now lets look at example number 3...
All of the GREEN holes had the flat washer in them
The YELLOW holes had NO WASHER in them
the BLUE hole had TWO washers in it
the RED hole had the NUT (see example 2) in it..

what the hell's going on here...is it supposed to be like this or did somebody screw up and could it have ****ed up my engine, or not really matter at all?

EXAMPLE 1

EXAMPLE 2

EXAMPLE 3

TIA...im worried that if i am a newbie (first time ever opening an engine)..and i found this..then there might be other things that are ****ed up.

also if you look at the nut\washer picture...you see a small lump near my wrench...that was on top of the cams when i took them off. (its a peice of cardboard or something)

Those look like ARP studs and the studs only come with enough washers for one per stud/nut.

First, did you remove all of them? If so I hope you were planning on replacing the head gasket. Second, you definitely need to get those washers evened out. I would also make sure that each of those studs are snug in the block.

If you didn't remove all the studs you can safely add/remove washers and check the studs by undoing ONE nut at a time. No more. If you undo 2 or more you will definitely need to remove the head and replace the gasket.

The bigger issue is that if the studs were f**ked up, which is something easy, then more complex facets of the engine build are probably jacked up. I probably wouldn't trust that engine to be OK and would go over every inch of it.

^^ so its supposed to be the way it is?

where only ONE has a nut in it...and the some of them have ONLY a fat black washer...and the reset have NOTHING?

keep in mind there was only ONE nut...5 washers....and the rest were empty.

and teh reason i removed them is because i could tell there was a hole that goes to the other side of the block, but the washers were out of place ( half of the washer was on top of the hole and was touching the valve spring)

Did you buy just the head? If so, just remove that stuff. It looks as though the previous owner was using ARP head studs. From the factory, the H22 uses head bolts, so you wouldn't have any washers or nuts in those holes. You wouldn't have anything in there anyway unless you were bolting the head to the block. Those holes are for the head bolts/studs.
