ecu problems

i have a 96 vtec, so its obd2 with a p13 (correct?) and recently my car will not run properly. i did a compression test, fuel system check.... basically everything mechanical seems to be in good shape. i even took the valve cover off and checked valve timing. the car will start, but only after resetting the ecu and then it just revs up to 3100, stays there for about 5 seconds then dies and will not start up again until the computer is reset again.

i know a mechanic at a honda dealership that does stuff on the side, and he has my car right now. he has had it for about 3 weeks and thinks that my ecu is fried because of a short in one of my vafc wires. i cannot find another computer to swap in and i dont want to buy a new one and have that not be the problem. i need a list of ecu's that i could get from a junkyard and try in my car with little to no modification.

also, any input as to what might be wrong with it would be appreciated.

do you think the vafc could have anything to do with it?
