I'm interested in slapping a turbo on my car, but I've been told that my Type SH will malfunction and shut down if I get it up over 250 hp at the wheels. Does anyone have any experience with this? Or know a way to fix the problem? (w/o disconnecting ATTS)

A worried luder.

There isn't anything you can do, you can't modify the system. ATTS just wasn't meant to work with high amounts of horsepower... what are you looking to get? 250whp is about right for a basic 7-8lb turbo setup.

The problem that turbo guys have and what JR has said they figured out is the sensors for the atts. I have read a little on it. It takes in the follow before it engages the atts: tps, speed, rpm, steering angle, yah and I think it has some others (maybe MAPS). What happens is the system will suddenly see a huge spike in rpm, maps, tps that are beyond the factory set limit and then throws a ATTS error. JR says that they wont do that because the SC is so linear in power, so they can control what the ATTS sees. If you pull the fuse, you will disengate the atts, but it will still be attached to your trans and will rob power because of the restriveness(is that word)m of the atts unit.
Man I cant wait for the JRSC!

I believe Ryan Earl had a problem with the ATTS kicking in almost "violently" when he a certain boost level. From what I remember reading he almost lost his car for a sudden onset of oversteer combined with the power he was putting down from the turbo. I'm pretty sure at least one other person has tripped the ATTS light on more then one occasion while adding boost to the motor. As for JRSC kit, I'd wait to hear first hand if it'll F with the ATTS or not. Remember there the same people that said that kit would be out over a year ago so wait until you hear it first hand from an end user.

Hopefully with the JRSC out maybe enough people will try and get Quaife to do a LSD for the SH and get that rolling. I'd much rather have the Quaife LSD especially on a high HP car.

Maybe I should rephrase this...What boost level is the max for ATTS to run on? How much boost can I run to my engine without having ATTS problems? (6-7-8-9 psi)?

I'm wading in a little late on this.
Can you really get 250 whp, and have engine/drivetrain hold up?
I wanted a SH (couldn't find a used one), but found a used SS on a lot last Fall. Was thinking of trying to find a 1999-or-newer SH this summer. But if I could get a liveable 250 whp, maybe I should abandon search for SH. A std 5-speed would be MUCH easier to find (and less $).
thanks

Honestly, I haven't gotten my car tuned yet, so I think I probably am around 210-220whp with my setup. I expect to have around 250-260 after tuning and rerouting the wastegate gasses, so then I'll know for sure. So far I haven't thrown any ATTS lights, only ce lights. The person I purchased the kit from said he got 2 ATTS lights in the 12 months he had the kit, and he was probably running around 240whp or so.

Ryan Earl is running sick amounts of boost, of course atts is going to go crazy... Honestly I don't have first hand experience of how much HP you can get before ATTS goes crazy, we'll see in a couple of months how it handles 250-260. Now if he does get enough people to put the Quife GB through, I probably will join that, especially if there are problems at my new HP.

Yeah he was, I'm pretty sure though the problem I'm talking about happened and a much milder stage of the car. I'm about 90% sure it was less then 10psi....like 8-9.

I think it shouldn't be that bad with the supercahrger coming out and more people going FI. Maybe I'll save my $$$$ for rims and put it away for the next attempt at the Quaife. I know it would be a bigger bang for the buck then new wheels.

definitely better than wheels.
Just think: 30-40? lb. weight loss plus unlimited power holding.
Please quaiffe, are you listening?

My question of the day is: Why would Honda make the ATTS not be able to handle power spikes? Isn't that what a VTEC engine is all about, one nice power spike in the upper RPM range?

Hey Silver- It is not the power, it is the way the computer interperates the power. If you all of sudden have 0psi @ the MPS, with 25% TPS, stearing turned, the computer will react that their is to much power and throw an ATTS. If you are wondering how much can it handle before you break it, that is another thing entirely. Only Honda would be able to tell you teh amount of HP the ATTS can handle.

Again, the computer looks at all the sensors to establish when atts will engage and when it wont. It has nothign to do with Cubic Inches, Boost or NOS, it is strictly sensors checking each other and verifiing if it is with the factory spec.

It can handle stock power just fine, even bolt-ons. Shoot, there are plenty of ENGINES that cannot handle a turbo. ATTS wasn't designed for a turbo engine or a 300hp engine for that matter.
