I have custom 2.5" pipe from the header back... it is crush bent, but not smashed like I have seen so often. I an NA with bolt-ons so a little restriction here and there is not hurting me.. I just replaced my old 2.25" to flowmaster 40 series and stock cat with 2.5" high flow metal substrate cat (the loud one) and a NOPI titanium muffler... my guys made the mistake of telling me I didn't need a resonator so I drove it for about 2 weeks and now they have my car again to add one for me (I get it back today!). Mine will not meet your standards, but if it kills a little of the "ricer-boy" sound and my ears don't bleed I will be happy. They claim their exhaust guy has a very good sound reducing resonator... I hope they are right, otherwise I would have gotten the vibrant.. I was considering the spiralflow until I read this...
Some more info -
This from an article in "Street Rodder" that's found on Magnaflow's page:
Quote:
"With straight-through mufflers, sound levels are a result of the core size and length. The smaller the core and the longer the muffler, the quieter it is and tailpipe length is irrelevant."
pay heed to that... it implies that going with a 4" wide body will be quieter than a 6"... does it not... you followed that up saying you would get the longest WIDEST one possible... maybe the 4" in better due to the smaller core.

I'm in the same position of trying to get that perfect exhaust sound. My Lude is supercharged and I just had the motor built. First time around, it had the Kamikaze header, test pite, Vibrant bottle-style resonator and Vibrant Street Power straight-through muffler, all with Kteller 2.5" stainless piping. Man it was loud! And boy did it drone when the engine was under load (hills, 3000 rpm highway speeds. So I replaced the resonator with a Magnaflow 6" x 27" straight-through muffler. This helped but I still got that dreaded droning. So I've decided to ditch the Vibrant muffler and try a Flowmaster 3-chamber Delta 50 Series muffler. It is being installed today. My goal is to be able to hear the exhaust, but I don't want it competing with the tunes.
Unfortunately, exhaust sound is such a personal thing. Plus sound clips are viturally useless because everyone's setup is different. I've also learned that you will never get away from that droning using a straight-through muffler design.
I'll post when I get the car back from the shop, and let everyone know my impressions of the Flowmaster.

i am about to purchase a muffler:
i have 2 resonators from previous owner (don't know wat size but those two plus cat take up the whole straight-route before it bends twice to get to the muffler. All on 2.5 (maybe 3"? i only hope...) piping.
I also was interested in Magnaflow 3in inlet w dual 2.5in outlet...
Bump, maybe i will have results on next post
