Crap, do these heat shield noises ever go away totally?!?!

I have an 01 5 speed. Last week while driving I noticed some SERIOUS noises. For instance, when I was in 2nd gear and took my foot off the gas I would hear a rattling noise. It scared the crap out of me. When I was in the lower gears and would push the clutch in, I would hear it again. It was embarrasing b/c people outside my car heard the noises and thought my car was falling apart. I'm anal about my car. All maintanence is done on time if not before.

I parked the car, made my boy get under the car and while I revved, he heard the rattling from underneath. So I took it to my mechanic the next day and he welded something on the heat shield to make the noise go away. Fine. But, in the past few days I noticed the noise again under the same situations. But this time the noise is faint, and it still is. It just irritates me. I dont like driving cars with noises.

Will this noise ever permanently go away without taking off the heat shield? Anyone else experience this too?

Take it back to the dude to weld it better.

Are you talking about the heat shield for the header? If so, remove it.

Had the same thing a couple days ago. So I took of the heat shield for my cat and hoped that would take care of it.

unfortunetly it didn't, I did a little more looking and it turns out the braket for my dc headers snapped off... I really couldn't see it untill I got up close. you might want to check that out...

so if you want to maintain your car, a $40 jack would be well worth it

Does removing the stock header heat shield increase under bonnet temps? Thereby decrease performance? I dont have a pod filter so will it make no difference if I remove it?

i doubt removing that thin piece of metal will do much in forms of performance

seeing as every aftermarket header doesnt' have one, i think its safe to say you won't notice a difference
