Crank Pulley Concern

So I had my crank pulley replaced about a year or so ago due to a chip that was eating belts. I bought a brand new OEM honda pulley and there's a horrible wobble to it, however there was the same wobble with the old pulley. My question is since this has to be moved over to the JDM motor when I do my swap are there any concerns that it was operating with a wobble for so long? I dont know why there's a wobble but I'm guessing there's an issue with the crank which could be why I'm buring oil and showing high iron counts.

So what should I do?

when you replace the crank pulley.. did you replace the key that goes w/ it? Because it will just grind the teeth off the new crankshaft pulley...

also... did you tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt to at least 180 ft/lbs? or at least hammer it w/ an impact gun?....

Exactly what kind of "wobble" are you talking about? I've never had this problem, and I've done too many timing belts to count! I also installed a Euro R crank pulley on my track engine, and no problems with wobble or anything like that.

The pulley litteraly wobbles like it's bent/distorted and a visible amount. I can think of two scenarios that could make it happen, a bearing or end cap problem at the #1 (or is it #4) thats giving me play at that end of the crank. My second theory is perhaps for some reason the end of the crank wasn't machined perfect so its slightly off of 90 degrees from the centerline. If you think about how the pulley would wobble in both those situations it gives you an idea of what I'm actually seeing.

I replaced the crank pulley, key, and bolt and it was a shop that did it but I'm certain it was installed correctly. Like I said I had the same wobble with the previous crank pulley as well.

It's not the pulley then, probably a problem with the crank.

Is it just me or isn't this pretty serious problem? If for some reason the crank itself is bent, I have two questions...

1) What the hell would put enough pressure on a crank to make it bend?

2) wouldn't this cause major problems with the bearings, pistons and block (or anything else that comes into contact with it)?

Anything big enough to make a crank bend would probably destroy something else. DR snapped a rod in his race motor badly enough to punch a hole through the cylinder wall into the water jacket. Even then the crank was within .0015" of being true.

I agree with #2 - that engine may not be a rebuild candidate if this goes on for very long. Yes, it's a serious problem.

The funny thing is the car has had this issue for a long time and still runs fine. It's just that I ahve some increasingly high iron counts and massive oil consumption.

Again... I know crap about cars... really... next to nothing... but high iron count and massive oil consumption do not sound like this car is running fine... It's kinda like having really high blood pressure or cholesterol... you are doing just fine until you have a heart attack....
