Cost of a speed contest ticket?

I'm too tired & don't have enough time to do a thorough search, thus why I'm not using the search funtion. At 0830 today, I go to court for my first "engaged in speed contest" ticket. How much is the average fine? I was going 50 in a 35...and I don't think the cop can really tell all the facts...he just caught me speeding, really. Let me know what to expect, and I'll love you forever.

i did 50 in a 25 and didnt lose my licence. I was put on city driving diversion...i think its going to depend on the city/state you're in. I got a 90 in a 70 in a small town one time and it was $90 ticket plus $30 court fee though. My 50 in a 25 was like 130 or something like that. Then I've had a couple 50s in a 35 and a 56 in a 45...I speed a lot at the wrong times...lol. None of those are on my record either . Good luck with your ticket...i think I just mostly babbled...but its 830 in the morning and I dont know what I'm doing up.

Damn, where do they have 25mph speed limits?? I couldn't go that slow if I wanted to. The only time I have ever seen one that low is a school zone.

I hope you weren't trying to race someone in a 25mph speed zone.

Maybe talk to the cop prior to going in and ask for no demerits? Say you weren't racing.. if you were well .. g'luck ..

I got a 100+ in a 60zone (thats right, cop couldnt keep up in the intrepid so put a +) .. and thats KM/h .. so like 60+ in a 40zone $264 ..

I'm going to ask for no demerits.. hope I get it.

if you are racing and he caught you just admit to him you are speeding, so that you can get away from the racing tickets. Since racing cost more

I got an exhibition of speed ticket once, when I had my camry. 80+ in a 35.
Cost me $500, but I could have had my car impounded at the scene. The judge gave me $500 and a year of court probation at the araignment, so I took it.
Otherwise, fine up to $1000, suspended/revoked liscense, 30days in jail were within the limits of what he could have given me.

You got caught racing? If so, you better have a nice judge.

I did 75 in a 45 mph zone. They let me go to traffic school and I paid the ticket which was 145 bucks. This was 3 years ago though. Dunno if the laws have changed in california.

Here's the dillio...wasted an entire day in court, thinking I was going to get tried in the morning hours. I was surrounded by a bunch of fvcking drunk drivers & thugs who smelled like weed smoke & ash trays for basically the entire day. The court attorney told me that the punishment for racing is "murderous." He said I was definately going to have my license revoked for a year, at least, and have to pay around $1000 in fees & fines, not to mention a year of probation. For some weird reason, the court files said that I had a DUI, which I've never had...so he took that to the judge, the fact that my vehicle record shows I never have had a DUI, and came back w/ something new. If I could pay the $1000 in 4 months time, I wouldn't have my license revoked, and NO PROBATION. Also, he got the speed contest violation bumped down to an "exhibition of speed," which is a mere infraction, no worse than a basic speeding ticket.

SO, although I got fvcked on the fine, which is going to financially KILL me for a couple months, I got off okay. Man, they seemed to treat me worse than the damn drunk drivers...WTF? I wasted a whole day there, so now I'm just emotionally & physically drained. Then I went back to work.

Live & learn, folks,
J

Stange... This is what the law states.

Exhibition is Violation VC23109(c)

VC23109(i)
(i) Any person who violates subdivision (b), (c), or (d) of this
section shall upon conviction thereof be punished by imprisonment in
the county jail for not more than 90 days or by fine of not more
than five hundred dollars ($500) or by both that fine and
imprisonment.

The entire legal document can be found here for those of ya who know your way around the law. Though I think you should be happy with what you got. I ended up having to pay bout $1400 + drunk tank time. But that includes a $1000 lawyer fee. The rest is the fine for exhibition.

my 50 in a 25 was in front of the county court house in Olathe, KS. I wasnt aware that it was that low and I was with 2 other friends...the cop had a choice to pull over a stock blurple 92 Si, a stock 5.0 mustang or my show accord. humm. yeah, I got hosed! Oh well. We have a LOT of 35mph areas. it sucks.

Well, technically, you can get jail time, community service, and/or a fine...they pretty much let you pick your poison. I'm just happy I didn't get a bigger fine, and better yet, no probation, unless I screw up again before paying the court off. I could have lost my license, so this was a real eye-opener. I got away w/ reckless driving for years, and I guess every "racer" has his day w/ the law. I've outran a cop before, I've definately been let off w/ nothing more than a warning plenty of times before...so I guess it was just my time. Nobody was physically hurt in this incident, and I didn't lose or hurt my car...I have to look at the positive here. It could have been WAY worse, even though I'm now out $1000 bucks. Please learn from my mistake, even though I know that will fall on deaf ears, b/c until today, I never listened to anybody's warning about racing. Learn from my mistake, and save yourself some cashola.

It was wierd, but on the way home, I had all kinds of drastic thoughts, like switching my exhaust back to stock, selling my turntables & mixer, selling my car outright... I'm already a changed man. I doubt I'll stop racing outright, but I've definately become a changed person.
