Compound ... help

Well on my long drive to NC I got 2 small cat scratches on the middle of my trunk.

My dad thought he would be nice and use a compound to get them out. Well it helped the scratches, but where he compounded, it left a nice palm size swirl. I have washed and waxed over it again, but its still there.

Got the car painted last year, and its a real high gloss paint, right where he compounded it looks real dull and not as reflectrive.

Did it take my clear coat off? I'm pissed what can I do to fix it?

If I got a finer compound would that help?

might wanna post this in the detailers forum for more help.

If u used rubbing compound as opposed to polishing compound there is a good chance u took some clearcoat off......You may try a good automotive polish (I personally use meguiars glaze) and see if that helps.

yea he probably used cutting compound.. get some medium polishing compound and apply that a few times.. i recommend turtle wax actually, at advance auto parts.. its the white polishing compound, because the abrasives in it are VERY VERY VERY mild lol.. almost to mild to effectivly take off the waterspots on my clearcoat.. so it might take some elbow grease but its better to be TO mild as you might have found out!

then use some finishing compound, or glaze, which just fills in any remaining scratches, then use regular polish, then wax.. it should look as good as new..

apply all of this by hand btw..
