Which clutch

Hey guys,

I'm debating on whether I should get an ACT 4 puck sprung or an ACT 6 puck sprung.

I want the one that has the smoother engagement. ACT recommends the 6 puck as the one w/ smoother engagement. I though the more pucks there are, the harsher the engagement.

I have an ACT HD pressure plate and am running a Street disc. I want a more durable & grabby clutch.

Is the 4 or 6 puck a good idea for a daily driven car?

In general a 4 puck will engage harsher than a 6 puck due to the force being applied to a smaller area (i.e. higher pressure). Either way, the engagement can be a bit chattery, but if you slip the clutch some either should be fine.

I use a 6 puck in my track car, and I'm switching to a 4 puck with the new engine.

As for brands, I'd highly suggest Competition Clutch.

Will a 6-puck clutch last longer than a Street Disc? I have an M2B4 stock tranny, will a 6-puck be too harsh for the tranny?

I have been hearing a lot of good things about competition clutch lately. How do they compare to Clutch Masters?

I'm a bit biased, as I sell Competition Clutch products (BTW, if you decide to buy one, let me know!). I don't have any first hand experience with Clutch Masters, so I can't really say. I can say that CC has improved the design of their 6 and 4 puck hub designs recently, so if you buy one, you'll get the newer design.

A 6 puck will probably not last as long as a street disk (like the CC Stage 2 or 3) since the friction material on the 6 puck is a tad thinner, but it really depends on how you drive the clutch. DR's IronMan 4 puck has been raced pretty hard, but showed almost no signs of wear during this last build up.

I have the ACT xtreem with a 6 puck UNsprung, and it sucked for daily traffic.
I personally wont go back to ACT for a 3rd time. it seems the throw out bearrings always start to make noise after a few months.

Sprung or unsprung hub makes no difference in engagement quality. Engagement quality is mostly affected by the friction material and any marcel present in the clutch disk.
