close to 15,000 miles... should i do anything else besides what honda suggests?

Im very close to 14,000 miles right now, ready to bring it in for the 15,000 check up. My light has already turned from green to yellow/orange too. My first and only check was at 8,000 miles, 500 late from when im suppose to bring it in at 7,500. maybe that’s why it changed color so soon…

Anyways, what I was wondering is if u guys can give me some suggestions on what I should do besides what Honda recommends.

This is what Honda says to do at 15,000:

-replace engine oil and filter
-adjust emergency brake cables
-inspect drive belts
-inspect undercarriage
-inspect coolant
-inspect and clean air filter
-inspect hoses
-inspect fuel/vacuum lines
-adjust idle
-check exhaust
adjust ignition timing
-inspect lights
-rotate tires
-inspect front and rear brakes
-check all fluid levels
-replace tranny oil (auto)
-road test
-vavle adjustment

I, like most luders here, baby my car pretty well. Which means I would like to do things more often and earlier than what Honda suggests. So is there anything I should consider also doing at my 15,000 miles point? Like injector cleaners or anything?

I thought that they changed the fuel filter too. Oh yeah, our cars do not require having the valves adjusted, that comes at the 30/25k check ups. The best thing you can do is keep taking such good care of it and bring it in for the scheduled check-ups.

NG luder:

So, you change your oil every 7500-8k miles with dino oil(Since that is your first oil change), Are you crazy? I think with the high rev our lude have, even with syn. oil, I would change it every 5k or less.

If that is the case, the best thing you can do is: change the oil every 3k with dino, or better, with syn. and change it every 5k or less! j/k :finger:

NG Luder, most this stuff you can do with out even taking it to the dealer, How hard do you drive. if you drive like i do i would sugest bleeding the brakes, and the clutch fluid. Even go for powersteering fluid. Nothing is never to early for a flush, change, replacement. I have 64k on my 99 and i have yet done the valves so i will wait untill 70k to do them.

do these,
buy the helms
change oil, tranny fliud,
bleed brakes, clutch
change brake clutch fliud
powersteering fluid flush
all that inspect stuff is okay but will not hurt to do.
your car is still new so when you get over 50k, pay close attention to everything.
Oh when you fininsh all of that, drive the hell out of it

well no matter what im still going to bring it it in the required miles even if i can do most of it or not. i already have the helms. i have an SS... so the only thing u suggest in addition to the list is bleeding the brakes and flushing out the pwr steering.

i have no clue on how to bleed brakes or even exactly where to do it. is it in the helms? if so i guess ill check it out if im smart enough to do it. i also am going to go for synthetic now. been planning to at 15,000 anyways. i already have a case modil 5w30 and im just gona ask them to put it in for me. i would do it myself but i dont have the oil filter wrench nor a large enough socket to my wrench to unscrew the darin bolt.

so theres not much else i should consider at 15,000? im guessing its still pretty early for my lude then?

Factory manuals are pretty conservative, so doing what it says to do is usually more than enough. As for the valve adjust, at 15k this shouldn't be necessary... but it certainly never hurts... it'll cost ya a penny or two though to have it done every 15k. I personally opt for every 25-30k.

hey ng, thank god you havent tried taking the oil filter off, its a pita!! i cut up my knuckles just to remove it!! i also am commin close to my 15000 miles,( only 900 more miles needed!!). im also gonna take in my car for the service, hell i might even ask them to flush the engine to get all the old oil out and have fresh, clean oil in.

I'd do my own maintenance except for one thing:

resale value.

If you are selling your car and can show someone a stack of papers that say that everything was done at a dealership, they get impressed. When I was looking at used cars before the lude, most people with dealer records were charging considerably more than those who "did their own" and even had parts recepits.
