Car won't stop! Brake line problem?? HELP

My roomate has a 93 Chevy Blazer which is in pretty good condition. The other day we got in it to go to work on a cold morning, and as we backed out of the driveway and applied the brake pedal, the car didn't stop! There's alot of pressure in the pedal (ie; it doesnt go tothe floor or anything) but it takes an extremely long time to stop... which is pretty scary. Do you think it could be air in the lines? Need new brake fluid? new lines? Thanks in advance.

Not to be mean, but if you don't know how to troubleshoot brake problems I would highly recommend having a mechanic take a look at it. Thats defiantly not something you want to mess up.

It could be something simple like low fluid, but it might be something like a bad brake booster or messed up caliper.

Did it happen out of nowhere or has it been getting slowly worse?

I don't know much about blazers but I would guess that the brake booster isn't working right. It should have a vacuum line going to it, make sure thats on and doing what it should be doing. My totally uneducated guess is that the brake booster went bad. If the pedal is firm and works when you press hard but don't have to pump it then its likely not air in the lines or fluid leaking. You didn't say anything about a grinding or other noise so so its not likely a super worn out pad/rotor/drum/shoe.

Sorry if I came off like an ass, I didn't mean to. Brakes are the most important part of a car imho. If they don't work right its not just a danger to you and your car but everyone around you. Defiantly something to have a competent mechanic deal with.

If the booster is dead then the brakes should feel the same with or without the engine on. I have never had a brake booster die though, so I can't say if they can partially work. Just an idea to check out
