It can happen if you didn't properly shift, however 90% of the time it will pop out instantly if that is the case (as in as soon as you hit the gas after shifting).
If this was just out of nowhere I would drain all the transaxle fluid, check for any metal, then refill with new fluid. It sounds alot like the syncro for 3rd would be getting worn.
132k+ Miles, if there were quite a few city miles, perhaps some 'spirited' driving. Yea, I could see the inside of your tranny being weak.
it happened like 1 or 2 seconds after shifting into 3rd..
i've been meaning to change the tranny fluid for a while... i guess i'll go through with it this weekend. just gotta find me a few bottles of Honda MTF.
i'll let you know if anything weird comes out of it, lol
thanks
oh, yea, i do quite a bit of spirited driving. i don't drive insanely fast, i've always just had a tendency to get up to speed faster than normal if you had seen me driving my old car, you would have never known it had a 0-60 time of 10+ seconds. hehe
thats what happend to me when my syncros ate it.. honda replaced my tranny complete... 100k miles ago.. no probs since.. its funny cuz the entire power train i have in my car isnt the one i bought from the dealer.. wierd.. haha 5th gen...<not exaclty the most reliable honda>
