Cant get key out of ignition! (95 Si H23 Auto to H22 5 Speed JDM Swap)

Hi guys & gals,

Well I just got done doing an engine swap. The original car was a 95 SI H23 Auto. I did a H23 to a JDM H22 w/ 5 Speed JDM. The car runs great but it kind of scratches in 5th. I guess you have to gamble on some parts in a swap. Check engine light is still on but I guess that will go away with some tuning. Engine swap was done by bulldogprelude @ CPC. www.chicagolandpreludeclub.com . Mike is the man of doing these things. Total time the engine came out was 11 ½ hours. Total time it took from tear down to startup is 7 days.

I have one problem and its getting to be an annoyance. I can’t get my key out of the ignition! It will come out only if I disconnect the battery. I have tried to search forms and online for the answer but I can’t seem to find it. I took out the TCU which got rid of the stupid blinking D4. I would have thought that key would be able to come out when the TCU was thrown out. If anyone can give me some feedback, it would be appreciated.

How strange. I've found only one thead on honda-tech about this sort of thing:

Edit: A roundabout way to fix this would be to install a killswitch, racer style, to the battery. Just flip the switch, take the key out. Be on your way...

Yea, or fix it correctly.

Its weird.

This did not happen when i had my auto / h23 in. The day i put in the h22 with 5 speed my key would not come out. It seems like these other people might have the same problem but its their keys. It seems like its locking in my keys like it would if i had it in D4 when i was auto.

Check underneath, near the steering column, for a little red box. unplug it and see if that works. I'm at school right now, so i can't go check wat its called.

Well I looked under and I think I found the cruise control box. I unhooked that and still my key does not want to come out... I have looked on eBay and found a jdm 5 speed ignition with key. Do you think if I got this 5 speed ignition then my problem will go away?

JDM Ignition on ebay!

Thanks for all your help.
