C&R radiator owners, what fans setup are you running?

The single 14" SPAL fan that came with my C&R radiator finally gave up and keeps blowing my fuse, so I'm looking to replace/upgrade to dual fan setup to optimize the cooling system.

The C&R measure 27" x 17", it's rather thick and leaves only about 2" gap in between the engine mount and the aluminum core on one side for a slim fan to fit. The other side is rather roomy and could accomodate a thicker fan.

Those of you running C&R, have you upgraded your fans? If so, what are you running?
I'm very interested in the dual Flex-A-Lite (FAL) fan for integra, but I'm not sure if there's enough clearance to fit.

If clearance is the issue, I can always settle for dual 10" or 12" slim fan setup.

Cheers.

Well sell Flex-a-Lite (FAL) fans. I should be able to find a FAL fan setup that fits your radiator core and clearance requirements. I'll send you a PM after investigating what will fit.

Thanks,
Mike

I've had my C&R/SPAL setup 5+ years and I have never had any problems with the SPAL fan- it still runs as good as new. When I first purchased the rad/fan I was told by a friend who is a Honda tech to ask if their system will allow me to run my A/C since some dedicated race rads will run hot with street accessories such as A/C. I spoke directly to one of the owners (can't remember if it was the "C" or the "R") and he guaranteed it would handle whatever I threw at it. He told me that they rely on owner feedback good or bad to constantly improve their products.

In my experience, I've sat stopped in traffic in NYC with the A/C cranked and the temp gauge has never budged past the halfway mark since I've had this setup, and it's a relief not to have to worry about overheating. With the stock setup I had to keep an eye on the temp whenever I got stuck in slow-moving or stopped traffic in hot weather, and crank the heat when it crept up high.

When my tech friend installed my C&R I believe there was a minor mod to the wiring during the install because of going from 2 stock fans to one with the SPAL. I'm not exactly sure what he did, but I believe he had to block off the stock second fan connection. Are you sure your wiring is OK, or did the fan itself just crap out completely?

^I have ran mine for about 3 years without any issues, traffic or race. Until it suddenly crapped out on me last weekend out of nowhere. The fan motor itself is busted and kept blowing fuses whenever I put in a new one. I tried plugging in my stock fan and it works flawlessly, so I know it is not any kind of electrical problem. I am quite surprised that the Italian-made Spal fan only lasted me for such a short period of time.

Cooling is a huge issue for me since I'm running high compression and higher idle with ITBs, I rather spend a little more on a nice dual fan setup just for peace of mind.

I looked into it and if you want to deviate away from the fan that comes with your C&R radiator you're going to have to do something totally custom. Because C&R radiators don't use stock fan mounts, they have a custom made shroud welded to the radiator to house the spal slimline they include.

None of the brackets were modified for the install. It dropped in very easily. Not having the second stock fan and fan shroud opened up a lot of space.
