brake problem

This problem with my brakes just keeps getting worse. Whenever I brake from about 50 or 60 to whatever the steering starts to shake like crazy and stops as soon as I let off the brake (or if I press the brake pedal harder).

Now recently it's starting to do something wierd when I brake going just 25. It feels as if the brakes themselves are pulsating or something. It kinda feels as if the rotors are warped. I'm not sure exactly how to check for this though. Whenever I brake it's like the brakepad is making contact with the rotor at one point but as the rotor keeps turning, the pad stops making contact with it, and then it'll catch again. It keeps doing this until I just stop. Can anyone let me know what to do? Would resurfacing cure this?

WOW! that's some serious warpage... with the problem you are describing, turning them wont fix that.

did you wash your car when the car was really hot (specifically the brakes) did you do something to cause this? b/c that is some serious warpage

Braking at highway speeds and getting shimmy is pretty indicative of cememtite buildup, not warpage. In your case, however, if you are getting it badly at 25mph then your rotors could indeed be warped. It's not common, but that sounds like your problem. You probably need new rotors. Don't worry, you can change them for under $100 if you do it yourself and it's pretty easy.

do a search in the classified, we have sponsors that have every/anything you need... also, you might be able to get into a group buy for Rotora slotted rotors @ nationalpreludemeet.com

yep...cememtite is common and that sometimes feels like a wheel is out of round... do a search and the posts will describe exactly what cememtite is and how to fix it... but I saw they're warped

what if you don't get vibration all the time and when you do its usually at varying intensities from the last time you had them?

varying intensities??? you running stock brakes?

here is just what I think it could be...
the glazing and cememtite are heat/temperature sensitive... the hotter the brakes, the more or less the vibration can be.
If your brakes are cool... there may be no vibration (or more in my case)
If your brakes are warm... there may be a slight vibration
If your brakes are HOT!!! there may be excessive pedal/car felt vibration. (or in my case... nothing)

It all depends on your setup... I found with my stock setup when the car was cool I had absolutely no vibration from the brakes... hard or soft, but the warmer they got the harder the vibration was... it escalated to the point when they were extremely hot the entire car would shake (think of the moonroof rattle coming from every piece of plastic)
I fixed this temp by emery boarding my rotors front and back and by doing the same to the brake pad... then proceeded to rebed them... but it came back

Legend caliper swap and Hawk HP+ pads.

I don't think I'll ever have brakes that function properly
