I am looking for a CF hood and decided to stick with either VIS or Gemini. I'm leaning more towards Gemini but there harder to find I'm finding out.
So my question is. Which of the two would I use if I don't want to use hood pins. I don't like the looks of them and I just want to keep it clean. Can I use both of these without pins?
Hmm I'm pretty sure you want hoodpins, its too risky to go without them... I have no first hand experience but I've heard plenty of stories

Yeah I looked through older posts and everyone has heard stories but no one has had it happen. I personally think that they ruin the lines of the hood. Maybe if there was some sort of safety device the attached to the inside of the hood rather than go through it.
I would rather find a hood with a strong latch mechanism than have to use hood pins.
Any other thoughts?
I have a vis hood that has a good hood latch. I have hood pins in mine just because I was racing my friend in his talon and watched his fly of at a hundred twenty. I bought hood pins the next day. Basicly it depends on how you drive, if you drive fast I would not go with out pins, but if you drive normal the vis latch will hold.hope my 2cents helps
i have a vis hood with the pins on my 99 and love it !!now i think its crazy to not have something to help hold it down mine even with the pins moves around at 80 plus speeds and like 120-130 plus it really likes to move ...i to really dont like the hood pins and was thinking of a way to use cabels with a littel pully to round it to the front of the car to still make it easy to use !!then with like a disconect at the front to release the locks ..what other ideas do you guys have lets hear um thanks ..micheal
I have a VIS hood and after almost two years, am happy with the fit and finish. I got hood pins because I didn't want to take a chance. However, mine "blend in" so they don't look so bad:

I would assume that the latching mechanism itself isn't what fails, but it is either the way the latch is mounted to the hood or the latch itself. Also, I'd assume that if the hood comes up as a result of the latch failure, it would catch a lot of wind & you'd need a decent cable & good mounting spot that would not just tear off the hood as the forces at 80mph exterted from the hood catching wind would be pretty high.
only one I've known that had issues is a VW - but he just forgot to put the pins in

Ive had my stock metal hood fly up on me, luckily i own a 3rd gen and the hood latches only open to about 45-55 degrees... so once it got to that point the hinges were doing nothing but bending, and at the speed i was traveling...... they got ripped apart.
the hood was fliped up and thankfully didnt hit my windsheild... but did tap my sunroof and i have a lovely web shatter in it..its holding up, but im replacing it as soon as i can.
i now have a new hood, and i use hood locks .....it was surprising how strong the air around the car can be at only 50-60....
I think that the problem with a safety wire is that once the hood comes up, even an inch or so, the forces acting on the hood are going to shoot up. Unless you found a way to mount the cable that is very strong you would probably end up with a broken hood where the mount point on the hood ripped out.
