About the cam regrinding

I wanted to ask a couple questions about the cam regrinding FAQ I read. Very informative and it got me to thinking I might have caused some harm if I already ordered the reground I was thinking of. But I own a '86 and well, finding after market parts for a a-series motor is hard now but not impossible, seen many people do very nice things with them. If I bought a brand new cam, not used then had it regound would you think I would still have the problems a used one might have? That way the distributor connection couldn't be hurt and still have lots of life and the heat resistance wouldn't be as bad. Just wanting opinions, I know I can trust my fellow luders out there.
