get ur self a h22a4 vtec head and put it on ur h23a1 block. this will give you 11.0.1 ratio rater than 10.50.01 or 10.0.01 ratio... if ur goin turbo or supercharger you want 8.0.01 or 9.0.01 ratio and you can run 87 octane gas opposed to 92 octane like a stock h22a4 calls for.. valve guides should be replaced if the motor has gotten hot like a overheat do to a thermostat sticking or blown radiator hose as this will cause the rubber to get bridle and you get an oil leak in the cylinders and you will puff blue smoke when you start the car, setting at a stop light to long, and when you shift from gear to gear it will send a puff of smoke out the pipe..... plus the vtec likes to burn oil to but there really isn't much you can do about this almost all dohc vtec's burn oil when in vtec.... for quick hp get a hondata system that will do wonders...

I'd get rid of the engine that's in there and do a 5 speed conversion before anything. The H23a1 block/H22a head combo is only really a good venture if you have the H22a to start with because you'll need more than just the head.

Do research, your asking things that have been done thousands if not millions of times before.

minilogoguy18 is right get something else... my buddy put a f22 in his no vtec and dam it gets down... the way to go with the head swap is h22a4 block and h23a1 head and go OBD1 p28chiped..... darn beaner next door did it in a 87 acura intagra... and yes you do need more than just the head so you know just like minilogoguy18 said, good luck keep us posted..
