8 months of work...FINALLY Done!! (picture intensive)

Hi everybody. I haven't visited the forum in a long time because I have been so busy. In order to put myself through school, I had to work long hours at an audio shop. Now I am a doctor and I have some time on my hands. A few of you may remember a post I made when I started showing off some of the custom work that we did at Advanced Audio Designs in Sharon, Massachusetts. Since then, I moved and my Comcast account was deleted. Needless to say I lost the post, but now I am hosting with Photobucket and would like to show you guys what I have been up to these last 8 months.

The first thing to go was my old Alpine. It was so old it didn't even play burnt CD's. I decided to upgrade to the Alpine F#1 Status. Here is a picture of everything stock:

I took off the plastic dash piece. Here is all the stuff I am going to put in it. The Alpine F#1 Status head unit, and the Icon 8.8" widescreen, touchscreen. The screen will control the computer that will be hidden beneath the center console.

Since fiberglass does not stick well to plastic without drilling a million holes, I re-made the dash out of brand new plastic. A lot of heating and shaping and sanding took place. Here is the result:

Here she is all painted:

It looks stock, which is my goal when doing modifications. I am not into flashy or cheesy.

Here are a few pics of the finished dash:

My next task was to make the Focal Separates fit into my doors. The doors presented a problem because they were too shallow and they were not large enough to fit speakers side-by-side.

So I had to make a wooden plate to mount the speakers against. I cut away the entire bottom of the door's plastic.

I was worried that the door wasn't going to look good when I finished with it, so I made a few rings and sanded the edges down to make it look as if it had a smooth transition.

The next shot is the speakers being test-fit with the grills on. So far so good.

With a little more sanding, I was able to make everything nice and smooth. To top it off, I sueded it with the same suede that is on my roof and my seats.

I am pretty happy with the way the doors turned out. They sound great!

I will post pictures next of my center console re-construction. It's late now and I'm getting tired. So I will do some more tomorrow.

The heating controls have been transplanted to the center console. It was pretty easy, I just had to extend all the wires and that little bicycle-like-cord that controlled the hot and cold slider.

I will upload those pictures next of the controls.

WB man, looks great! I'm guessing you will be doing less custom stuff now that you have a non-car-audio job right?

Here are the pictures of where I relocated my heater controls and also how I took a Logitech trackball mouse and incorporated it into the center console as well.

This first picture is the stock center console when I pulled it out of the car. I never really used the cup holders anyway, becuase it got in teh way of shifting, so I did not mind giving them up.

Here is my heating unit. I pulled it out of the car and now I am trying to figure out how to take the faceplate off of it.

Below is the face plate separated from the rest of the heater controls, I tentatively placed it where I wanted it to be in the center console. This is the area where the cup holders used to be

Here is a mouse that I bought:

And here is the mouse all dismantled:

This picture below has everythingi placed where I want it to be:

And here are some of the finished pics. If you look closely you can see the scroll wheel and two little mouse buttons (near the e-brake handle) have also been molded into the console.

hahahahaha.

Well, I was thinking about making some sweet PRELUDE TYPE R cupholders

I could probably sell them to all the members on this board for about 100 bucks a pop. Each member would probably buy two or three and then I could retire off that money.

Thank you for the compliments. Next I am going to show how I completly re-did the trunk. I also got rid of those horrible torsion bars and replaced them with gas shocks. Or whatever those little piston thingies are called. I'll post those up tomorrow.

I love the tv/center console with tracking ball. It's simply awesome. I remember when you were doing the buildup on preludepower.com
