$600 for 60k maintenance?

Called up the dealership to have my ignition switch repaired (recall) and wanted to get some maintenance done as well when the service people told me it was gonna be around $600 for 60k mile maintenance. I think this is a little steep even if there's a valve adjustment involved. Is this correct?

Mine was like $350. That was for oil and filter change, valve adjustment, etc. $600 is WAY high. Check with another dealership. I drive 70 miles to get my maintenance done for almost half that of the local dealer 10 minutes away.

They should be swapping the timing belt out for that price.

valve adjustment:

go to sears and buy feeler gauges ~$1-2

take off valve cover, adjust valves.

while rotating crankshaft, look at belt

total cost= $1-2

Helms manual = ~$50
Snap On tool for valve adjustment = ~$43
Snap On bent feeler gauges = ~$25
Valve cover gasket = ~$8
Hondabond = $12
OEM oil filter = $4
5 quarts oil = ~$15 (conventional oil)
4 NGK ZFR7F-11 = $8 for all 4
Total = $165

Plus you will have the Helms manual to fix other things and the tools to do a valve adjustment later on.

My dealer here in Austin quoted me approx $350 for the 60k service. I was expecting around $500 and was pleasently surprised

Yeah $600 is way to much, even if they changed the timing belt as well as the water pump.

$220 for me without changing the air filter and spark plugs...
It's going to be like 260 with the above...

wow, glad to hear i wasn't crazy....it's unfortunate tho, since that dealership has given me great service in the past for reasonable prices...i guess times are tough.

Exactly. I paid one hundred more for my 90K service, w/ timing belt & water pump replacements. Shop around...
