anybody know whether a 5th gen steering rack with bolt right in to our 4th gens...tie rods are same from 92-01...so should steering rack be pretty much the same

my reman'd steering rack..3 years old..already crapping out...boot ripped..clunking in the steering....

or do you think just replacing the inner and outer tie rods should be sufficiant? doing that anyways

Nope. Rack mount points are different. It requires a new subframe. Not to mention the 4G utilizes a speed-sensitive p/s system and the rack has 4 ports on it vs the 5g's 2 ports. The track is also wider on the 5g so I think the 5g rack is wider.

Replacing the tie rods shoul dbe sufficient, though you'd have to ID where the clunking is coming from (usually the rod-end joints).
