I tried searching the FAQ and whatnot, and it seems like there's no solid thread on the springs for 5th gens. [If there is, someone let me know and I'll go look there] So, here's my question on 5th gen springs in general and on 5th gens riding on stock rims in particular...
So far my list includes:
eibach pro kit - 1.3" ($200)
h&r sport - 1.4" ($150)
h&r race - 1.8"/2.0"
neuspeed race - 1.7" $180
neuspeed sport - 1.5" $190
apex sport - 1.2" to 1.6" (they said 30 to 40mm)
sprint - 2.25"
intrax - 2.0"/1.9"
tanabe precedeo - 2"
tokico sport - 1.5"
(If any of these are innacurate, please correct me)
My question is, which set of springs is the best (compromise of ride quality, price, and most importantly, the look) for a 5th gen on stock rims?
According to my rough calculations (a.k.a. sticking my fingers in places) the stock wheel gap is 2.5"... but then I've heard that going farther than 1.7" or 1.8" gives you camber problems... but then it's been said that if you don't drop at least 1.8" on stock rims it won't look good... decisions decisions. And this doesn't even begin to touch on the whole SHOCKS discussion, which makes it even more complicated...
what ever decisions you come to remember i have a good set of eibach pro kit used for like 6 months will be yours for $100 shipped obo. it takes away the big gap you have with no camber problems.

the eibachs once they settle are more than 1.3....but you wont need a camber kit

nice and soft for street but if u ae hardcore racer get something stiffer
Tanabe Super H, though I hear they are no longer made. <$200, 1" lowering, stiffer than Eibach ProKits (about like H&R Sports, maybe a little stiffer).
Go with the H&R(softer) or Neuspeed(stiffer) Sports.
Both are proven to be great.
I assure you, a 1.4-1.5 drop will look good with any rims, unless u r looking for a really SLAMMED look.

anything higher than 1.5 dosnt look lowered. you will have a camber with anything over 1.3. 16's and 17 inch rims, if you go to 18's you almost eliminate any camber.
but then it all comes to taste. my opinion SLAM IT. 1.8 h&r race. then you allways have to remember springs settle about another 1/4 inch after it settles. best way to figure it out you want to look lowered you have to compromise the camber, unitll you get a camber kit. but even then you'll still have a camber.

then it will look smooth, camber isnt that big of an issue. if you drive allot. like 2000 miles a month 24k a year your looking at new tires probally once a year. on 205.55.16 stock size...which are cheap...so some compromise needs to be made.

Yea I totally agree that anything less than an inch and a half really doesn't look dropped on stock rims... there's always the possibility of getting rims in the future, but it's probably in the DISTANT future since I don't usually have a job.
A few more questions...
If I drop 1.8" - 2" with the OEM kit and Mugen exhaust am I gonna have clearance issues? Are the springs too stiff for street driving (I'm not going to race it)? How often will I be replacing tires, and is it a better investment to get a camber kit? And how long will my shocks last?

I have the sprint springs. Looks so good, it's a hassleish to drive everyday, but rides relatively smooth. I wish I had gotten something a little less extreme. With my SH rims people swear I have after market ones, but I'm always like...nope those are stock sh rims.
As far as stock shocks go, I don't think they'll last all that long with race springs, plus your ride might suck. I suggest getting a nice set of shocks and having them installed at the same time as your springs, save you a bunch of time and money

I have the h&r race springs and manage to do okay with my N1 which hangs much lower than the Mugen. The springs aren't too bad but most of the roads I drive on are pretty smooth.

i had my stock SHOCKS FOR 3+ years on a 2.25 cut springs. the neuspeed race that i still have now. and i got the koni yellows like 1.5 years ago. no problems at all. feels as good as the first day i lowered it.
and i drive ALLOT.

H&R Race seems like a nice compromise between sanity and good looks, but what does it mean when it says the drop is 1.8"/2.0"? Is that like 1.8" for the front, and 2.0" for the back, or is it the other way around?

That sounds pretty good actually... and since they settle a bit that'll be low enough for sure. When I do get shocks (although it looks more like an "if" right now), I won't have to worry about adjusting those much...
Anyone with H&R Race springs or the Tanabe Precedeo springs that would like to comment on the ride quality and how they like them in general?

IM Hamy......he has h&r race.......and i am lower w/ neuspeed sports
my lady has H&R and they ride good...
I have RS-R and its also good....
both of these ride like stock... not bouncy at all... just dont get coil-overs..cause they bounce like i mofo... the coil-overs that you use wth your stock shocks.... i hate those so much... everyone that i know has them and they too hate them too...

The BEST.. the same brand i have.. and if you are a PIMP.. you would have RSR titanium springs... only in japan i think.. well.. actually you can probably buy them (non titanium) off a japanese site and after tax and import fees.. i say.. 240 bucks.. just a guess.

i have h&r race springs with tokico illuminas and they are great, ride quality is not bouncy and just right, you'll love these springs, i had h&r sports before, but i switched to h&r race because the sports werent low enough for me.....the ride quality was just the same...
with these springs you will need a camber kit for sure.....
I'm happy with my Tein Springs. You (soniclude) mentioned that you liked them in my thread http://preludeonline.com/showthread....threadid=85467 . I've had no problems with them so far and I feel that it is a good height. The ride is still comfortable IMO.
