Somebody asked me at work why I loved my Prelude and here's what I came up with-
1. Looks - It's so different from everything else on the road. "So fresh and so clean, clean."
2. 1st Car - My first car was an 86 Prelude SI about 7 years ago. I loved that car and everytime I get in my 2000 I am reminded of the old 86. I've had 3 other cars since (Grand Prix GTP, 93 Stealth RT/TT, 98 Z24), and the Prelude is still my most memorable.
3. True Sports Car - Granted the Prelude isn't a blow your mind fast sports car, but it is a true sports car. This car was built to be a sports car through and through. It isn't some SR-T Neon that's an econo car with a hot engine, it is a sports car period.
4. Handling - Nothing, well nothing under $25-30k new handles like a Prelude. It makes you to drive it.
5. Reliability - I once read in a 1997 article of Car and Driver (I believe)this - "The Honda Prelude is a car that wants to be driven hard, and begs you to drive it harder." Maybe, not word for word accurate, but close. And that's how I feel about it.
I love my 2000 Prelude and I always get compliments on how nice it looks. Maybe it's not a 350z, or an ugly, yet fast STi, but they aren't a Prelude either.
It's just a fun car, period. And that's today's Prelude sermon.
1) I get compliments left and right, even when it's dirty, and even though it's got scratches from head to toe.
2) Girls jock the car all the time...
3) The handling is hands down INSANE, especially in the canyons--I can't wait 'til I get an LSD for it.
4) Even though I break parts on it every now and then, the more I take care of it, the more it takes care of me.
5) It's a part of me.
6) LFW--'Nuff said.

The 4th gen VTEC was named 10best all years it was available.
I'll tell you right now, the guy who bought my car stopped by my work today and i saw him rolling up and pulling into the parking lot and all i said was "WOW!". Effing thing looked so friggin good makes me wonder how i went from this:

not sure if I agree with you on this one, after all it is still fwd
man i love my prelude cause its different. put alot of effort into it as well. gill nice clean lude. STi is clean too but not a great fan of them..too concept

Ahh, RWD is over rated. I have had a RWD car in the past and have driven cars like the S2000, Nissan 200SX and BMW M Roadster. I have to say that I find FWD easier to push hard and drive hard all the time. Especially when its wet, in difficult conditions I'd pick FWD any time (unless of course there's AWD). Getting a RWD car to have the handling and balance of a Prelude would be difficult, you'd have to go to something pretty exotic I think. I think the lude does ok for what it is, a sports car for the masses.

- not a lot of people have them, so originality is always good
- it's classy and clean looking, I get compliments on it all the time and not just from younger people. Some people in MB's and BMW's even give me the
1. I agree; has a sexy, clean styling all of its own.
2. For what it is, it handles great, has its own kick.
3. Meeting all the other 'Luders out there.
Go cruise with a group of 'Ludes anywhere... you'll know the feeling.
I never got that same feeling with my civic or my integra, but everytime I see a fellow luder on the road I get the wave instead of the dirty looks. I love my lude
1. No one has them. The car is VERY rare, I probably see 1-2 per week here in Delaware.
2. The style is so unique. No car even comes CLOSE to sleekness of a Prelude. The headlights look friggin' awesome.
3. Handling. Went from my '98 Accord sedan to my '97 Prelude. WOW, no comparison.
FWD not a sports car? I disagree completely. Granted a RWD platform is ideal for many situations as far as racing, but just because a car is FWD doesn't mean it can't be a sports car. Their aren't many though. The Integra/RSX, and Prelude are the only real "sports" ones I can think of.
My point is that this car is built to be driven, and enjoyed driven hard period. It's not luxury, family, etc. It's a sports car.
How many RWD sports cars do you know that cost less than $26k new? I mean I've driven and owned sportier/faster cars, but that doesn't mean this isn't a sports car. Just a little bit tamer of one.
I'm also not saying that the Honda Prelude is the top of the mountain by any means. But for my current income (college student), it is. There's not any other car I could afford and would rather drive. That's my point.
the only honda/acura i would consider a sports car is an ITR (and an nsx of course -oh yeah and the s2000). even insurance companies don't consider preludes sports cars, they are classified as "sporty coupes."

now i hate flame wars, and annoying arguements, so i don't really want to say this but, are you kidding me? RWD overrated???! preludes having better handleing/balance than most RWD cars? sure FWD cars are easy to drive, they understeer! they plow! they're FWD so that the majority of the population that wouldn't know how to control oversteer could be driving a SAFE, controllable, predictable car. i'm sorry but you don't need to go exotic to get a car that handles better than a lude. how bout a 240sx? a miata? you've driven an M roadster and don't think it handles better than a prelude???? you want balance, drive an RX-7 and then go back to the prelude. heh, sorry i'm getting all riled up but damn... i love preludes, but reality check: there are better cars out there. just because our cars are FWD doesn't mean we gotta try and convince ourselves that it's better than RWD ok i'm done

agreed, RWD rules over FWD, frankly im getting sick of our low torque econo box FWDs even though they still look nice
