4th gen intake vs 5th gen intake

i recently put in my aem short ram intake into my 4th gen prelude. i did notice a difference in sound but then i went for a ride in my friends 5th gen prelude with just an aem short ram intake too. his seemed to be a lot louder especially after 3.5k rmps. i followed the installation directions exactly. is there something wrong or is it all just in my head?

probably just in your head, same motor and same style intake. the only thing I could see is maybe you both have different filters, and one lets out a little more sound.

Intake for 4th gen is 2.75' and 5th gen is 3 inches. I'm not sure if the # for 4th gen is accurate but Pipe diameter is smaller than in 5th gen.

That is true for the CAI. On the short-ram system though AEM only uses 2.75'' on the 5th gen. Not sure what they use on the 4th gen.
