4th and 5th gen dc rear lower tie bar installation instructions

i decided to write this up because all the people I had asked about installing this either took it somewhere to get it installed or didn't know. While it might be a very easy install, nothing beats pictures and steps to follow. Enjoy

Quote:
Tools needed:
socket wrench: 19mm & 14mm (6 sided, not 12)
breaker bar
15mm open ended wrench
jack & jackstands
possibly a metric allan wrench
I also suggest a torque wrench

Difficulty: 2 1/2 / 10
Time: 1 hour

Step 1:
Start off by jacking up the rear of your car and placing jackstands on each side of the car. Get under your car and take a look at the lower control arm bolts on each end. If they are looking pretty rusted now is a good time to spray some wd40 (or whatever you like) on them to free them up a little bit.

Step 2:
Once you have the car jacked up and on jackstands you'll need a 19mm socket wrench and a breaker bar to make things easy. Start off by taking off the bolt that the lower control arm is attached to on each side...

Step 3:
Now that you have the lower control arm bolts off place the left bracket from your tie bar in place and slide the bolt back into place. Don't tighen it all the way. Later on you'll need to adjust it.

In the picture I already attached the bar because it was easyer to get the bolt started when it was off the car. Once you have the left side bracket and bar in bolt on the right side bracket and bar, again, don't tighten everything yet. Chances are you'll need to bring the bar in or out a few turns in order to get the right side holes to line up exactly.

Once you do simply slide the bolts in and tighten them down slighty...

Step 4:
Everything should be in place now so start off by torqing the lower control arm bolts down to roughly 61 lb/ft (suggested honda specs).

Tighten down the allan bolts on the bars right end, and then the left end. If the whole thing turns place an allan wrench on top and hold it in place. DC suggests the strut bar bolts to be tightened to 40 lb/ft.

Lastly tighten the jam nut on the bar with the 15mm open end wrench.

Step 5:
That's it!! you can take a step back and check out the bar and all it's glory. if it's a little crooked you can simply loosen the control arm bolt on the left or right side and adjust it straight.

Now go out and sport your newest toy and take pictures

Very nice write-up and thank you. Many people don't take the time to take pictures and do the write-up, but judt say "it's very easy". As most of us know, the simplest things sometimes can make you very frustrated.

Nice write up - I'm surprised you didn't have any trouble breaking the torque on the nuts.

yeah me too. When I originally searched for instructions most of the results were people who couldn't get off the bolt. I did use the breaker bar but I definitly didn't need it. It came loose relatively easy.

breaker bar + solid socket wrench & 6 sides socket = winner!!
