How many years have you been a car enthusiast?

How many years have you been interested in automotive performance? Count only the years since you had a valid driver's license (no answers like "since I was 3"). Auto performance counts as anything from bodykits to stereos to superchargers.

I've been a car nut since I was 3. No I'm serious, one of the first memories I have is being strapped into the back seat of dad's mate's new car, a brand spanking new HSV Group A Commodore. That was way back in 1988.

So the years since I've had a valid drivers licence, 8.

I can't remember a time when I didn't either play with hotwheels, or draw cars with huge motors. so I guess around 29 years or so?

Since I was 15.. so 12 years.

I installed a stereo system in my first car before I even had a license. The performance mods came shortly after.

Ever since I can remember, I'd say 20 years, LOL. I have a catalog of 12 years of Road and Track magazines I've only misplaced a few issues. If anyone needs any road-tests from 96-current, I can scan them in for ya.

Since I was 16- about 20 yrs.- As the oldest I always helped Dad work on the family cars.

My first real mods other than stereos were on my very first purchase in 1987: A white '84 VW GTI. (Mk. I to Euro geeks; square headlights and the long tails). I picked up the spacers, etc. to mount up a set of Porsche D90 rims to a set of sweet Pirelli P7's. The stance of the car was incredible. The outer edge of the tire and rim was flush with the edge of the flared fenders- it was a lot of tire for a car that size. Those pix are on that old stuff called film packed away somewhere.

The next modded ride came when I traded the GTI in for a new '89 Accord LXi coupe, also in white. I purchased the factory EQ and foglights, which came with black plastic "H" covers. Shortly after the purchase I mounted a set of American Racing 5-spoke rims with raised white lettered Goodyear Eagle GT's. That might sound nasty now, but they looked good on the white car. I might be able to uncover some pix of that one- if I do I'll post them.

The '89 Accord coupe was traded in for a new '92 Lude that I still drive today. I immediately started out on the quest for mods, as I still do today....

Link to the pix described in my previous post

I wasn't able to find the pix of my '84 VW GTI with the Porsche rims/Pirelli P7's, but here is a link to a webpage I set up with some before/after photos of my '89 Accord LX-i coupe. The first 3 are stock (besides the ski rack and window tint). The foglights and an EQ for the stereo were factory options. Obviously the factory fogs at the time weren't as integrated as the ones on today's Hondas.

The last 2 pix are of the car with the 5-spoke American Racing rims. I later mounted a set of raised white letter Eagle GT's which looked really nice and tied the whole look together by breaking up the dark area between the wheel well and thr rims. Unfortunately I can't locate any pix with the complete Eagle GT/American Racing rim combo. I only rocked that setup a few months before I took them off and sold the set when I traded the Accord in for my Lude.

Well, based on the rules of the thread, I'm at 9 years, but I bought my first car, 1991 Chevrolet Beretta GTZ when I was 14. I had a stereo in it shortly after and sold it before I even could drive it legally...

I have been into cars as long as I remember, mainly thanks to my dad, who is a huge car buff himself. He has always kept his cars in excellent shape, and now has a mint, all original 1968 Mustang coupe..

same here... so thats about 24 years since the first time i started playing with hot wheels. didn't help the fact that my dad would take me out all the time in either his 78 porsche or the 68 mini cooper. my first car was an 85 volvo 740 turbo, which i proptly started ordering parts for it from ipd (upgraded turbo/intercooler, exhaust, stabilizer bars, intake, etc... no wonder why my high school gf was always pissy )

I started really taking an interest when i got my license (10 years ago), but my obsession with learning everything I can about them sprung up around 2000/2001 when I got my first prelude, a 1988 SI.. I loved that thing, and wanted to know all I could about it.
I even ended up custom fabbing non-flip headlights with hellas.. *memories*

Your poll doesn't have enough years on it.

Count 'em- 20. I'm on my 5th lude & previously owned an S2k. I've owned American and Japanese and they both have their merits. I've spent more years in and under cars now than on this earth. I plan to keep driving and working on them until I'm 6 feet under.

I picked up the love for cars at about 8 truely because my brother had a low rider truck (he is 10 years older than me). It was the coolest thing since ice cubes.

I personally started my own car obsession when I was 15. I had a 88 CRX with skated out wheels, 12" Player Rims, and a system. Don't make fun of me, in 1998 it was HOT!
