Tein FLEX with HA spec springs

After two months of back-order waiting period, my Teins finally arrived. The reason it took so long is because of the custom springs, originally they came with 10k/6k front/rear, but I wanted the stiffer spring rates same as the discontined HA, which has 12k/8k f/r. So my lude has gone from Koni yellows/RS*R springs to the Tein Flex with HA springs.

At medium settings, the ride isn't nearly as stiff as i thought it would be. I do notice more feedback from the road than my previous setup, and the ride is slightly harsher, but it is still absolutely streetable. All this is with the settings at the medium stiffness. It feels almost like the firmest settings on the RS*R/Konis setup.

At the hardest settings, the ride becomes insanely harsh! You can notice every single bump on the road. I can see this is not the setting I would want for daily driving. However, as far as the handling goes this is where the coilovers shows its real performance. With Spoon f/r bars, ST f/r sways, harness bar Im getting virtually nil body roll, the noise does not dip much on hard braking and does not raise in hard acceleration. I tried to get wheelhop but unsuccessful, the traction has greatly improved.

In terms of construction, the Flex have the Teflon coating which would not rust, unlike the Basic, SS or HA. This is important to me because we do see salt here in winter.

I am very happy with the purchase, they are definitely an improvement over my previous setups on the track, but I would still recommend Koni's setup for strictly street-use. It really depends what you are looking for, as there is always a trade-off between performance and ride quality.

how much extra did it cost to get the custom spring rates and getting the shocks revalved to match the new spring rates?

There is no need to re-valve the shocks if the replacment springs are within +/- 2 kgf/mm. The extra set of springs costs $200 more.

I'm guessing you wouldn't be able to move springs from HA's to Type FLEX because it's not a help spring setup correct?

you can move the help springs over... hmm, they shoulda given them to ya lol.

also, I did a writeup, but you shouldn't be using the lowest 4 settings on your struts because you didn't revalve them

back from the dead!!!!!!!!!!!

lowest 4 settings as in 4 hardest (stiffest)? or the 4 softest?

I have Teins SS, i'm looking to up the rears from 4Kg to 8Kg, will it be a problem? i'm assuming they are valved to the same spec as the front springs which is 8kg? but i could be wrong.

no u cannot do that. Tein says that the valving is only good for +/- 2Kg from factory specs. So if the SS's are valved for 4kg spring rate, then the highest you can go is a 6kg. Anything higher and you'd need to revalve the dampers.

Nevermind Off the Shelf Teins are historically quite under-damped for even the springrates they come with, adding 100% more rear spring without a revalve is a recipe for blown shocks.
