Product Review: Raxles (axles)

One of my inboard CV joints has been bad for months, causing a really bad vibration under acceleration. After replacing both sides with parts store remnaufactured units ($60 each) and having little/no improvement, I decided to bite the bullet and order units from www.raxles.com.

I think I paid ~$130 each, which INCLUDES pre-paid shipping labels to return your used cores. They arrived very quickly, and Marty at raxles was incredibly knowledgeable and easy to work with. The units came packaged VERY well, my set was double-boxed. The raxles are definitley nicer than the remanufactured units I've installed in the past: the CV boots are MUCH thicker and nicer, they use Amsoil grease, the inner/outter joints look to be of higher quality, and all the splines and threads are free from nicks or defects. Also included was some disposable gloves and rags for the install, and directions from my house to the nearest UPS drop center for return of the cores . . . great service.

I got the new axles installed, and it feels like a new car. I'm probably just used to the bad axle vibration at this point, but I dont remember the car ever feeling this smooth in ~40,000 of ownership. Overall, I'm very satisfied and comfortable with the price increase for these units and would recomend them to anyone.

how long have you been a member on here? You'd think that you'd know this was supposed to be posted in the "product review" forum... just messin!!!

I had to order a new axle as well but I ordered a brand new one for about $70 shipped from autopartswarehouse.com and I din't have to return a core. Now I've just got to replace the passenger side with a new one instead of the ramanufactured one I just put in <500 miles ago... (It's already vibrating)

The one I bought also has a 7 year/70,000 mile warranty!! Not bad for $70...

No one ever actually looks in that forum, and how ofter do axle questions come up? Weekly?

I just got fed up with replacing parts store axles . . . sometimes they are shot as soon as they go on the car. Sure, you may have a warranty, but it's still a pain in the ass. For me, the peace of mind is worth the price.

lol...

I think it's well worth the extra $20 an axle to order a brand new one and not have to return a core...

hmm see i need a custom axle.

i wonder how much that would be. no its not for power.

my drivers side is wierd. there is some play in the axle once its installed. i don't remmeber hitting anything that would cause this. but it always tears up that side (grease in a circular line in engine bay)

basically the drivers axle needs to be like 1/4 inch longer. hmmm

Raxles can make custom length axles for hybrid swaps, so they may be able to help you out. Call and ask for Marty, he is really on top of things and a super nice guy.

Wow, interesting. I've had an acceleration induced vibration problem for a few years now and I'm sure its the driver's side axle (I already replaced the passenger side one). I think I may bite the bullet and get one of theirs

I only got the vibration under acceleration, and it was considerably worse at initial acceleration, primarily in the 45-60 mph range. Mine was bad enough that my whole dash shook when taking freeway entrance ramps.

My car does this under acceleration, but only in freezing temps.

If it starts it up again this winter I will replace it with some new ones from autopartswharehouse for $70<----Great find
