Polk Audio db650 speakers

Ok....so I was driving to my friends house the other day and I noticed a raspy sound coming from one of the speakers in the rear. It was really annoying so I stopped by a Circuit City that was on the way to see what they had. I was ready to buy the cheapest speaker their....and that's what I did (even the sh*tiest aftermarket sound better than stock...IMO). They had these Polks on sale buy one pair get the second pair half off. I figured what the heck.

A couple of days later I got around to installing and boy was I dissapointed. The installation was simple and there was no need for a crossover (these are 2-way speakers btw). First impression was the highs and mids sound crystal clear at any volume. My biggest complaint however was that there was no thump. The stock speakers would distort if I turned them up too high but and least there was that thump. With the Polks there was no distortion at any volume but they were also lacking the thump.

These speakers are rated at about 60 watts rms and 180w peak. I've got a Pioneer head unit which was great at handling the stock speakers but couldn't do much with these. I decided to hook up an amp I found under my bed (forgot I had it)......600w Kenwood Stereo/Mono Bridgeable, 2 ohm stable. I hooked it up to the rear speakers and WOW! It just brought the speakers to life....that was all they needed......more power! I am so freakin surprised at the clarity at all volume levels. The thump I was looking for is back, with a vengence! There is no type of distortion whatsoever no matter how high I turn it up..........and it sounds perfect!

I was actually getting ready buy a small 8 inch sub to put in the back just for the bass.....but there is no need for that anymore......these speakers do the job.....and they do it very well! Eventually I found the specs on the amp and found out it was 2 ohm stable so I connected the 2 front speakers to it as well. All I can say is this is the best $150 I ever spent.........I was and still am very surprised at how perfect they sound (and they're only 2-ways). If you're looking to upgrade and not spend too much money.....GET THESE! You won't be dissapointed....I can guarantee! All you need is an amp capable of driving them. I've got about 75 watts rms going to each speaker and they handle without a problem.

I got 6.5" all around cuz I've got a 4th gen....but 5th gen people could get the db650's for the front and db690's for the back. You won't regret it.....and for the price.........you'll feel like you should have paid more for them....I know I did.

Summary: If you don't want subs and want better sound...all around.....get these speakers.....I was dissapointed at first but just give them a little bit more juice and it's a worthwhile investment. Here's the Polk website:

Like I said.....you won't be dissapointed!!!!!! And for the price....you just can't go wrong!
