Not a whole lot to write about, but here we go . . . .
Over the past month or so I'd been noticing that the car was needing to turn over a few more times than usual to start in the morning. I'd also noticed on a roadtrip last weekend that my highway gas mileage was down 2 or 3mpg compared to what I was accustomed to getting (25-27 vs. 28-30). There was only about 50,000 miles on the set of OEM NGK platinums I had in there, but I figured I'd try out some Iridium's to see how I liked them, and hopefully bring performance back up to where it should be.
I found several places to order them online - the lowest about $7 a plug, which happened to be the same price as the local Advance Auto Parts. Advance didn't have them in stock, but they said they could order them for me & they'd come in 3 days with their weekly shipment. I took them up on the offer so I wouldn't have to pay for shipping on my own . . . .
When they came in, I checked the gap and found they had been pre-gapped to .040, so I widened them up a tad up to the factory specs of .044. Swapped them in no problems, and so far so good.
There's no perceptible increase in power or smoothness, but the car did start more easily this morning (a good thing since this will be the 3rd winter in a row that I've declared my battery to be on it's last legs). I'll keep track of mpg over the next couple weeks and update this thread on my findings.
So overall, thumbs up to the NGK Iridiums - no surprises. $6.96 each is cheaper than the stock platinums and they should last just as long. And if I've found an extra horsepower or two over coppers or platinums, gravy . . . .

But this week has been a poor performance barometer because of the consistent single-digit & below zero temps. I'm going down to my grandmother's next weekend (~230 miles round trip), so I should have a better idea from that.

hmm i have the ngk coppers......maybe i should switch over to the iridiums in about 1k (when i'm supposed to replace them)
Copper > Iridium's
Although Coppers don't last as longer.

That is not true.
I have the NGK Iridiums also.
I contacted NGK about how long their platinum and iridium plugs should last.
The Iridiums last longer than the coppers, but not as long as the platinums. I don't remeber the mileage range they said, but it was around 60k+ miles for the platinums and 30k+ miles for the Iridiums.
I changed my platinums out at 60k miles and I plan to change out the Iridiums when I hit 90k miles!
