The M2B4 tranny..

here's a list of the tranny codes and ratios.

Prelude
M2A4 - JDM 4G
M2B4 - JDM 4G LSD
M2F4 - USDM 4G
M2U4 - JDM 5G Type-S ATTS/USDM Type-SH ATTS
M2Y4 - JDM/USDM 5G Base
M2Z4 - JDM 5G SiR S-Spec/JDM 5G w/ LSD option

Full Gear Ratios

M2A4 - 3.307 - 1.950 - 1.360 - 1.071 - 0.787 - 4.266
M2B4 - 3.307 - 1.950 - 1.360 - 1.071 - 0.787 - 4.266 LSD
M2F4 - 3.307 - 1.950 - 1.360 - 1.071 - 0.870 - 4.266
M2U4 - 3.285 - 1.956 - 1.344 - 1.034 - 0.812 - 4.266 ATTS
M2Y4 - 3.285 - 1.956 - 1.344 - 1.034 - 0.812 - 4.266
M2Z4 - 3.285 - 1.956 - 1.344 - 1.034 - 0.812 - 4.266 LSD

Alright first off if u notice, the gears are slightly shorter in the M2B4, than in the standard M2Y4.. I did notice that the rpms are the same as if i am driving with the M2Y4 all the way up until getting it into 5th gear.. The LSD is amazing in turns and in a straight line there is less wheel-hop (if u know what ur doing), and better acceleration... And not to mention the extra part that I love is I can drive at say 80 mph at a little over 3500 rpms now.. Excellent.. The tranny shifts wonderful also.. I bought it local with low mileage.. A little over 40k I was told.. It made me wish I had of bought the motor that was coupled to it.. But my motor is still good, except I have to get some vital seals replaced close to the timing belt area.. By the way.. No modifications were needed to be made to install this.. Bolts right up..

I wish I had of done this sooner... If I could have afforded it sooner, or knew about a jdm warehouse in my area..

Also.. I wanted to say sorry to a member on PO whom I begged to let me buy his tranny if I couldnt possibly find anything here.. My friend's shop had searched for a tranny (M2Y4), and it seems they are scarce or costly.. 1100 for one from a junkyard WITH NO WARRANTY, 2,000 for a rebuilt one with 3 year warranty.. And then my friend that works at the shop told me about a warehouse that imports right hand drive cars, motors, and trannys.. EVERYTHING just about.. I lucked out.. he had the guy lower the price and i picked it up.. I am sorry I couldnt help out a fellow luder here by buying his tranny.. That would have been the best option if i hadnt of found this one.. 1200 for a M2Y4 with quaife lsd is a great deal.. Thank u for your time none-the-less.. if ANYONE around my area needs a tranny I will send them your way.

Sounds pretty sweet, Keith . . . what's the name of the place you got it? They have a site?

And if you don't mind - how much did you pay?

Here's a question

M2B4 - 3.307 - 1.950 - 1.360 - 1.071 - 0.787 - 4.266 LSD
M2Y4 - 3.285 - 1.956 - 1.344 - 1.034 - 0.812 - 4.266

In comparing the ratios for these two transmissions, wouldn't the larger number indicate that the ratio is longer rather than shorter? 1st gear for M2B4 = 3.307 versus the M2Y4 = 3.285.

Shorter ratios should quickly bring your RPMs up versus longer rations should slowly bring your RPMs up. Or am I thinking about this wrong?

On a different note, I drove Keith's new transmission and it feels wonderful. Much better than his old one. Shifts are smoother than my SH tranny. I don't know. It just feels different. Didn't get to test out the LSD wen I drove it though. Maybe next time.

The higher the number, the tighter/shorter the gear.

And if it helps - think of it as a ratio . . . a 3.307 gear is actually a 3.307:1 gear. So the higher the number of the gear, the higher the ratio. So more revolutions needed for each turn of the output shaft, and more mechanical advantage (read: torque).

I've had a M2B4 for 3 years and i LOVE it. Its hard not to when you pay for a SC Pully for a GTP to a friend and the labor to swap the trannys!

But it does make Auto-x MUCH more fun

Enjoy your LSD. Watch your 5th gear syncros.... I just replaced mine... FYI the USDM 4th gen parts fit/work.

I payed 950 for it.. It was worth 1100 though.. it's only because my mech knows the guy's son that owns the place.. It's a warehouse in patterson NJ.. I have to figure out the name of it.. I just drove out there, drooled over all the engines and parts, sat in an S14 silvia.. And brought my tranny to the shop in the same day

I think you have a mistake in the 4th gear ratios listed for the M2A4 and M2B4. It should be 1.034. My information is from teardown.

Mine is in now as well and coming from my beat clutch SH trans its like butter! I had an Exedy Oraganic Street setup with a Clutchmasters lightened flywheel and braided clutch line installed at the smae time. The combo feels PERFECT for the car!
