Ebay Racer: (lol) XTD stage 2 clutch, and 12lb flywheel combo

I needed a new clutch for a while, mine had life left, but it was not the best it was slipping so I ordered an ebay stage 2 clutch package with a light weight 12lb 1 piece chromemolly flywheel.

Theres the goods, the stage 2 clutch (upper left) red (for what ever reason) pressure plate upper right, and the light flywheel on the bottom.

Price: $270.00 shipped for the whole set. (comes with plastic alignment tool, and throw out bearing also, It worked just fine it didn't break or anything.)

Quality: On par with the best of them, I never heard of the company XTD before, but read my review below to find out my personal opinion on my purchase.

The good word: After installing the stage 2 clutch, the gripforce this plate provides, is nothing short of head snapping. Especially when you go from a stock piece, to this. It can grab even when being reved out to 4,000 rpms and launch you forward in a split second. The new light weight flywheel, reduces the effort necessary to propel the vehicle in 1 2 and 3 gears, giving you a decreased 0-60 time, and a much more responsive pedal feel when in any gear at all. some people told me before I purchased this, that it wasn't going to be different. They were fairly accurate, the drivability is the same.. if you can drive 1 stick car you can drive most all of them. The RPM's do drop off a bit faster, making fast shifts, pure heaven in a 5 speed. The rpms also increase faster when in neutral, so making a sweet precise downshift to pass on the highway, or to attack that next corner.. is a piece of cake. Little effort is required to get the cranksahft spinning now so all around it's a heck of a lot more fun to drive then ever before.

The bad word: There really is none, this is quality product, a price you cant beat probably, and performance you have to feel to belive all from an ebay auction package deal.

Conclusion: If you're needing a new clutch and flywheel combination, and are making more then OEM power output, on your SE SI or even VTEC prelude, this combination package is good for about 270 hp and 290 torque at the flywheel. I would recomend this to my best of friends, thats how happy I am with this product.

Last note: Always allow your new clutch a proper break in period, of at least 500 babied miles for the material to wear evenly, and properly before doing any sort of hard driving, shifting, or testing of the items installed.

Sounds pretty sweet, if it is really only an ebay brand, I guess time will tell as to the quality of this unit. Sounds like a good purchase though

so what is easy driving considered? just no high rpm shifting or downshifting hard?

a clutch is in my future and I don't want to screw it up. 500 miles is a long time for me..

no downshifting at all would be ideal for break in, and yeah no high rpm shifting either. You would have to take it easy and drive like everything is made of thin glass. I drive that way anyway normally, so it wasn't a break in period for me.. it was just a normal 500 miles. 501 to be exact, I hit 501 when I got back from test driving it, lol. THEN the fun began.

i hate not downshifting..

I made about 400 of mine highway miles.. so I would assume thats fine.. I mean I live 50 miles from my closest destination, so a 1 way trip for me is usually 100 highway miles, and about 1-15 city type miles with traffic being heavy the times of day I travel. With in 500 miles, I would assume that you'll come across traffic several times, even on highways.. Hell you could just go out at 5m to the buisiest highway you know of.. lol you'll get plenty of shifting in if it's anything like rush hour in the tri state area .. lol

hmmm sounds like a good deal... im probably going to get my clutch/flywheel changed before my new motor goes in. I too am in the habbit of downshifting as well, a habbit I'd feel weird of breaking for a week or so if indeed it's necessary for breaking the new ones in. I just like knowing I'm always in gear even while slowing down in case something happens.

my stock clutch is starting to slip bad because the previous owner was a dick so.. I'll be putting in like a Clutchmaster Stage 0 or 1 .. nothing serious.

You could get away with downshifting, if you are an awesome rev-matcher.. but It isn't recomended .. just normal 3K rpm shifting, and no launches to drag race people at stop lights. You'll really regret smoking uo that new clutch, when 500 miles goes by, and you are wondering why it doesn't grab like a new clutch is supposed to. It can, and will produce a different texture on the pad surface, just like a brake pad thats been over heated it will "glaze" over and not work properly. Proper break in period of such important drivetrain products, are definitly something I takle seriously. I'm sure you guys will be able to last 500 miles with out driving to hard or too many downshifts, I had to downshift 3 times in the 500 miles.. so a couple wont ruin it for you lol just be easy.

You shoudl really vary the type of driving during breakin to make sure everything seats the way it should. If you put 500 miles of highway driving there's minimal times it has to seat, think of the clutch the same as you would breaking in brakes.

Sorry but im new at this and i would like to know whats the difference between Stages 123 and racing clutches. We have a 1992 honda prelude and soon we will be doing an engine swap then that would be a great time to replace the clutch. Will this car be a daily driver???, Probably not just weekends and track events

Any help would be great

My prelude is a daily driver, I got stage 2 clutch because im expecting to make 250hp or so soon.. Definitly easilyu daily driven. DONT use a puck clutch, if you don't plan to use it for race only.. those stage "3" 6 puck clutches that hold gobs of power.. will break your flywheel, before they clutch runs out .. they are worthless unless its a race only vehicle. Some people here have them, but they will see why i just said that in time.

Difference in stages is the materials used.. and the amount of power the parts are capible of handeling. Mine is good for 270/290 i belive, so im in the clear with my hp goals.
