Dupli-Color Caliper Paint Kit

To anyone looking to paint their stock (or aftermarket) calipers a company called Dupli-Color has made a nice kit for painting your calipers.

It includes a can of paint (red in my case) and a spray can of caliper cleaner. The caliper cleaner you just spray on scrub off all of the loose dirt and stuff with a toothbrush or something similar. It also comes with a brush, paint stir stick, and masking tape and recommended instructions. It was really easy to use and paint the calipers.

The only thing I didn't like about it was that the brush gets hardend from the paint and after a while it makes it a little annoying.......other than I have no complaints and the calipers look great. I'll try and take pics tomorrow when the sun is out.

Here are the pics (finally....sorry for the dirtyness)...
This is the rear caliper...

Front caliper...

I got lazy with the masking tape and painted over some areas I shouldn't have.....doens't look too bad...just try to ignore that .

Here's a link to the website...

I got mine at Advance Auto for about $15. It's definitely one of the cheapest mods I've done to my car....but one of the most time consuming as well. Good stuff though!

I can also support this product. I spray-painted the calipers in the spring, so they looked good. However after getting my wheels, the rust on the rotor looked terrible. I didn't feel like taping off every corner of my car again, so I ordered the duplicolor kit (black) online:

http://www.levineautoparts.com/levin...brcapakit.html

$19.95 + shipping - I couldn't find it ANYWHERE around where I live.

Painting the rotor hubs was very easy with this kit. It wasn't necessary to tape off anything. With the car in neutral, or the e-brake off, the wheels spun freely and painting all four sides took ~ 2 hours.

If I decide to paint my calipers again, I won't think twice about using the duplicolor caliper kit.

*note: to keep the brush from hardening, use some zip-loc bags or saran-wrap to put the brush in while you aren't painting (putting wheels back on or jacking up the car). When you are ALL done, give the brush a good soak with the cleaner spray. That way you can use it again for touch-ups, or to re-coat at another time.

How did the caliper look just aftet the cleaner spray. I dont know if I would want to paint my calipers, but I would like to get them looking new and shiny again without any of that caked on brake dust. Will just the cleaner spray do that?

The cleaner spray doesn't make it look all nice and shiny and doesn't really get rid of all the baked on brake dust. It basically just preps it by removing most of the impurities that would cause the paint not to cling to the surface and eventually peel and crack.

SuperRR: I'm not sure of any place online that would accept paypal but I do know that the Advance Auto Parts store I went to had only one in every color. This was the one on OBT near Oak Ridge.

The prep spray in the kit is nothing more than Brake-Clean. If you want to try to clean your calipers, just buy a bottle of Brake-Clean at an auto parts store for ~$3.

I didn't buy the kit but I did use duplicolor paint on mine. Still looks good after about a year, i'm sure doing about 8 coats helped.
