Help! Need a reputable mechanic in Manhattan!

So my sister has a 99 Corolla Auto. Recently it has been developing strange symptoms with the transmission. She says it shifts very slowly sometimes, and in first gear it feels like it doesn't really want to move until she gets some speed and shifts into second.

Another problem, things aren't go so hot for her and her husband right now. Money is tight and the high CoL in the city doesn't help much either. Having said that, do you guys know of a reputable mechanic who can take a look at this for her and won't charge an arm and a leg? She lives @ E. 87th St. @ 3rd Ave.

Thanks, all.

Going on what you have said, she should check to see if the transmission fluid is low. If it's low it will result in slow shifting as you have described.

fluid low can also cause the tranny to just sit n rev free.. & not catch any gears...

if you can bring the car out to queens (right over the 59st bridge)

is a good shop. ask for michael. tell him jacky w/the s2k send you.

Anyone here on this forum with a lift in their Garage?? ....... I know that's far fetched question, but I'm in the same pickle jar DongTran. My manual clutch is starting to slip so I want to change my clutch, bearing, and such but Honda wants to charge me 1200. Given that I used to lower, repair, and install Honda automatic transmissions I really wouldn't feel great about forking over 1200 just because I don't have the tools.

Anyway anybody know of a person that has a lift and tools that would be willing to lend to me for like... $200 ??
