Just as a suggestion...bring the car to autozone to scan for the cel code (if the vehicle is driveable).

I do not need to explain anything to you.
My broken wings still strong enough to cross the ocean with.
My broken wings how far should I go drifting in the wind.
Update:
I reset the ECU. Did valve adjustment (made it worse, I need to do it again). Checked compression, it was a lot higher than I expected. 242, 240, 242, 235. Engine was warm. Plugs are iffy. The are Iridiums so you can't judge the wear by looking at them. Drove the car around today, turned the CEL on again. This time it wont blink the code when I jumper the two pin connector. I'm gonna try a fuel filter when the car cools off.

^^ we did it according to the helms, Billy's way is certainly the way to go!!!!!!!! 5th gens can be a royal pain in the rear.. yeesh! i thought my car was picky... so anyone who should search and find this.. check out the FAQ section...
not only is Billy's directions for the how to do a valve adjustment more accurate but also easier and faster b/c you don't take the wheel off to crank to position everything...
as stupid as this issue sounds, it may just come down to the damn spark plugs

Try putting the #1 sparkplug in sylinder #2 and vice versa.
Good luck Paul.
