I'll try to be as unbiased as possible with this one.
Handling wise, teh Celica GTS is better than the prelude. teh Celica is a very very light car. So teh Celi wins in the handling dept. I've driven the Celi, and I can attest taht it is very nimble on its feet.
The average 0-60 test and 1/4 times for the Celica GT-S from teh major magazines are faster than the average acceleration times for the Prelude, so the nod goes to the Celi for acceleration times.
Here is what yo ucan't get from matehmatical numbers though.
You guys ever been in a Celica? You don't get into a Celica, you WEAR one. It's so damn small inside.
Engine vs engine, the Prelude gets the win. the Celica engine is so hard to keep in the VVTi range that on a track it feels really slow. That engine is just WAY too peaky. We have lots more torque than the Celi, so prelude gets the win.
The SHIFTER SUCKS on the Celica. That's the reason for all those blown engines. IT's very difficult to tell what gear you're in and what gear you just shifted into when you're going fast, so that's a major negative on the toyota. The prelude's shifter isn't nearly as good as the new RSX's or the S2000s, but it's far better than any Celicas.
Looks wise, to each his own. The celica look a lil boy racerish to me, inside and out, while the prelude has a more classy look. To put it this way, I'd rather pull up to an expensive restaurant in a Prelude than a Celica. BUT, I must admit, teh action package on teh Celicas do look very nice.
When driven hard in turns, the Celica feels very lightfooted, but squirrelly at the same time. Kinda unpredictable. The Prelude feels MUCH more surefooted and I feel like I can take turns much hotter than in the celica because the prelude's handling builds up confidence and I know that the prelude isn't gonna do something squirelly on me. So when blasting thru the backroads, prelude is the winner.
My 2 cents
