Pretty sure that various headers (plural ok here, but each car being a S4 only has one header) have been dyno proven to provide a gain even on an otherwise stock motor. Not talking anything that is basically the stock header, but just in stainless steel though.
To get the most though you need to tune and with an auto I believe you are stuck running piggybacks (just another of many drawbacks to an auto).
