Okay, for your power issues: The 5th gen has a decent tubular exhaust manifold from the factory. Unless you dump some serious coin on a high-end header, you aren't going to gain much more than decibels. So basically, you're probably running a high flow cat sandwiched between a stock exhaust and near-stock header. That said, it's possible that you've actually added restriction, or at the very best, matched the stock flow. The best cat in the world isn't going to do anything when it's bottle necked at both ends.
Back to your tranny. Start searching the forum, and make sure you have plenty of kleenex. You'll need it for the tears you're gonna be shedding.
