Also the h22a's are a closed deck block with the the crank postiton sensor in the dizzy, they have slighly higher compression and use an intake manifold that doesnt have the emissions gas recirculation system in it(egr system), also fRom each year up the engines got slightly better tunes to them to squeeze out the most power. The h22a4 are open deck block with 10.0 to 1 compression and use an obd2 egr system. The pulleys on the crank and balance shafts are diffrent and so are the exhuast manifolds(the stock h22a are slighlt shorter to fit into the 4th gen chassis. Also the ecus are different from the h22a to the h22a4's, the ecus are tuned on the pre 1997 to run a peak and hold inhjector where as the 97+ are tuned to run a saturation type injector, Because of this you cannot use the 4th gen intake manifold with out having to replace the injectors and then the knock sensor cuz the plug ins are different. All in all there are many differences in the engines, so many of them are small and get overlooked by many people doing the swaps.
