Bitter sweet experience on day 3.
Woke up at 9 again today, it was a work holiday so both my dad and uncle were off work. This is how the engine looked within 30 minutes.
Parts, Parts and more Parts...
Got my new wheel arches which are going to be placed on top of the old wheel arches and held on by glue.
An hour or two later...
Unfortunately there was damage and scarring inside one of the piston walls
After the fear of thinking I'd need a new block [roughly 2 gran] my uncle told us we could "cheat" and sand it away. Although this wouldn't be 100% it would be very close to. This was the result of an hour of careful sanding.
Turns out I'll need to machine the Flywheel and Head gasket.
In the end, my uncle was able to give us a diagnosis of what's wrong. Firstly, I was right about the previous owner, he was a complete idiot. Turns out he neglected to change the oil so there was a lot of gunk and build up. Secondly, the Piston itself overheated during driving and a lack of oil allowed it to scar the walls [I hope I'm repeating everything accurately but I'm not 100% sure].
So I continued to clean the parts in Varsol.
After the diagnosis, we were able to make a shopping list. I've got 75 parts ordered on hondaautomotiveparts.com [3/4 are engine parts, but I've also added other parts to the shopping cart]. The total came out to nearly 1300 USD...which is rougly 1500 CND. That's without border tax and duties. May be a cheap price to pay for a 95% new engine but I was hoping for less than a gran

. In addition, I'll be passing by the local Honda dealership over here to get their estimate for all the parts before I actually order. Which ever can deliver at a cheaper fee and quicker will get my money LOL.
Next up for tomorrow, go visit Honda.
Order parts.
Remove surface rust.
Begin prepping the body for paint.
