3.75in from the door, and I measured 2.5 from the top of the line on fender.
First I read the DIY on this first for some pointers and heres how it went. I printed out the templet in the thread and it measures out to be right on the button. I removed my front bumper to run the harnesses. You probably could get away with removing your splash guard and go that route. I would still go with the bumper. Use a dremel and buy the reinforced cutting wheels (never had one break on me). Be sure to measure twice and cut once there is very little room for error. I felt the templet was to risky to replicate so I made cuts I felt the dremel could handle. Just make sure you make the cut out is too small rather than to large, and trim little by little checking the fitment frequently. I cut out a very small notch on the left side not shown in the picture, for the spring clip to set in. Just look at the marker and you'll know what I mean.
