It's okay if you aren't able to close the quick splice connector completely, just so long as you use pliers to push the metal spice into the wire as far as you can. As long as you get it at least 1/2 way then you are good because you just need to get a current/connection. Use electrical tape to wrap it up as tight as you can to keep it from coming loose. Afterall, you're only tapping into a little 12v wire, so you don't need it to be 100% mashed down. Or if it REALLY bothers you then just buy a bigger connector.

All of the wires coming out of the steering column are the same size. The yellow one is the only 12v line that is not hot when the car is off so I'd stick with that one if I were you.
