I've noticed a couple coilover suspension that have these helper springs along with a regular linear spring (Tanabe Sustec Pro S-S and Tein HAs). From tanabe's website, they state

Helper springs assist with rebound stability, ride comfort and keep the main coil spring seated. Preload of the main spring can also be set to zero, for maximum comfort and suspension travel. Non helper spring models are also available for a lower cost!

So from my understanding its used for more for comfort and it somehow integrates itself into providing a better rebound or something. Correct me if I am missing something.
Then I look at the TeinSS and they do not have the helper spring. Then I looked at the HAs and they do have them. As quoted from Tein

I did search and everyone does say that the Tein HAs with the helper springs are less noisy.
My question is does it do anything besides getting rid of noise? I guess I just don't know how it functions in relation to the main coil. Thanks!
