The reason honda dealerships don't know of the problem is a simple matter of statistics:
If a honda dealer sold about 4 Prelude's a year, that would be the adverage amount.
Out of the 4 Preludes, say one is an SH, the other a manual base model, and two are an SS.
Only 1 in 4 SS autos are going to fail. That means for every two dealers you might see one SS tranny replaced under warranty!
The Prelude is not an Accord and you don't see enough numbers to show the scope of the problem in an obvious manner.
The 97, 98, and 99 Preludes all have the problems as well, BUT by the time that Honda got nailed on the auto tranny issues they were all out of the BASE warranty (3 years / 36,000 miles). So Honda decided to not cover them as it would cause all sorts of problems with people that had already paid for replacements!!
