This is bordering on hard to believe unless that ECU was tuned VERY aggressively. Did they say what octane fuel it was run on?
Here's your breakdown:
+XS Ecu that goes to 8500RPM
This tells almost nothing by itself, but the ECU could be remapped with very aggressive timing (more torque and power by removing Honda's margin of safety) and less fuel and a lower VTEC point (though the VAFC could do that as well).
+A'pex V-AFC
Used to adjust VTEC changeover point and fuel map to improve a/f ratio and power band. Usually a custom ECU renders this unnecessary, unless you are still tuning (ECU incorporates changes the VAFC makes).
+rev-limiter because he apparently downshifted from 5th to 2nd at freeway speeds .. (oops?)
Dumbass.
+KG/AD special head combination .. translated:
the combustion chambers were welded and the ports were hand polished by kurt gordon,
The head is welded to either provide more material to work with/shape, fix "goofs" in p/p work, or provide a higher CR without changing pistons. Generally the "best" heads have been welded to add material in the bowl or ports to reduce the size of the ports in places to improve the shape and/or torque by reducing the size.
+type-s camshafts
+type-s valve springs
+0.5mm oversize stainless steel valves, crower titanium retainers .. "My **** is revvin' on the rizzeal, yo."
This strikes me as odd... given a Crower or Jun stage 2 cam, he would likely produce more power and have a better match for the valves. To each his own, though. The Type S gear provides more lift and duration for improved flow through the head (as do the larger valves).
+Spoon cam sprockets
Allow you to adjust the cam timing to tweak it for optimal power/torque at a given RPM.
+Vortech fuel pressure regulator
Bump fuel pressure to meet the demands of a more thirsty engine.
+Factory Intake is modified, he didnt say how but its filtered through a spoon drop in, rc throttle body, hand ported intake manifold.
Odd. Crappy intake, a better CAI would provide more torque and probably more power, a short ram would definitely provide more power on the top end. The IM can be improved on a lot, which I assume was done.
+Spoon spark plug wires,
Doubt there's any gain here.
+Spoon radiator cap
No gain here. Helps keep the rad from boiling over under hard conditions. More bling-bling than anything.
+DC sports header,
So-so header. Better than stock, not worth the money, not worth much power. More bling-bling than anything. Better off with a Mugen or modifying the header with a collector to match the exhaust size.
+Aries Special "super hi flow" cat converter
Worth a few HP but I would suggest a header, test pipe, and exhaust that are all matched in diameter for max power.
+GReddy SP exhaust painted / hi-temp low gloss black (his cars black too so its super stealth yo!) the article and his ghetto talk are annoying.
That whole magazine is annoying.
+ACT Xtreme pressure plate
Help keep the clutch from slipping from that mad power, yo. Probably a good idea at 230HP. WTF kind of dyno was that, anyhow?!
+Energy Suspension motor mounts
Help keep wheel hop down.
+TEIN HA coilovers, pillowball mounts.
+spoon front tower bar
+powerstops hawk plus brake pads
+16" mugen mf-8's
All handling, baby.
